MotoGP » Smith: Factory Yamahas made ‘huge step’

Smith did alright in the big picture...the top 6 are the top 6 this year...unless Pedrosa hangs up his leathers to find a fix for his ailment, no one else will be in the top 6 barring race incidents (which do happen). Had Cal been on the front row, I believe he would have contained Pedrosa and finished 6th but he was racing with Smith and won and Smith was .5 of a second behind after a full race. So "ifs and buts" are nothing here. Ideally he should have beat Cal but 8th or 7th is his best placing this year (barring race incidents etc). So an OK weekend for Smith.. nothing spectacular like Phillip Island but an anticipated result...considering most people thought he would be barely in the top 10... he beat both Esparago brothers that many thought would be ahead of him... so he his holding his own...if you all were expecting him or anyone else beside the top 6 to challenge for the title or wins...you have not been watching Motogp for more than a month...lol

MotoGP » Marquez: Outcome is difficult to accept

Race incident with Bautista and he was not hurt (like he did to Rossi in Mugello with no penalty) and obviously the angle of the contact and what was damaged (front brake) meant AB was not plowed into as some suggest but contact made on a pass. I am sorry it ruined AB's race but this is racing motorcycles where contact may happen (mostly unintentional) as was MM's pass on AB. With that said he could have waited but if I am not mistaken you cannot win a race waiting at the back of the field, which is not my consent to take other riders out but it was a tight pass that resulted in side to side contact not nose to side as in "punting or plowing into" contact. Anyway...back on topic..He is visibly upset at his performance, not against Rossi as some suggest. He made a rookie mistake on the first corner and is mad with himself...not the other riders. If you do not like him just admit it and stop making up your version of the truth!!

MotoGP » Qatar podiums mean Ducati race fuel reduced

You must also be fair in your assessment. The OPEN rules were intended for smaller independent/private teams that all the MSMA agreed on. GiGi came to the fold after the fact, at the end of 2013, he read the rules and realized that in order to compete against Yamaha and Honda he needed unlimited testing, in the season to develop which only the OPEN rules allowed. So Ducati, who also initially voted on the Open rules were never initially considering the move...it was GiGi that took them in a different direction. Likewise Honda and Yamaha were not even considering it because it was a rule for private teams, at least this was the intent but that was not specified in black and white print! so Ducati could exercise the option legally.. then came the scramble to create the factory 2 class as there was concern among the Factory teams and I would say more so for the private OPEN teams who expressed concern of a Factory using the concessions.. how could they compete???

999666GP15:
Vilas46: Its a joke... Like i told Ducati have Future in Motogp
Did you know Honda and Yamaha had the option to run Open Class with their official teams and both factories rejected? If you knew that your comment makes no sense and if you didn't knew it it continues making no sense. cheers. It's all about risk/reward and Ducati was the only factory which chose to go Open class.
The initial rules provided the option but Ducati shocked the paddock by opting for these OPEN class concessions as a factory team. The intent was to replace the CRT but the loophole gave everyone the option. HOWEVER!! the final rules of Factory 2 did NOT allow Honda or Yamaha to compete in Open class because to qualify for factory 2, you must NOT have had ANY wins in the 2013 season!!!!!

MotoGP » Helmet issue 'cost Lorenzo chance of victory'

Realist:
Joeski: So you are saying riding a motorcycle at 220mph/355kph with JL's .............\blockquote] It was a loose analogy. Relax! JL's "excuse" has already been refuted by the ACTUAL lap times. He wasn't losing .5 seconds a lap at all. Guna broke it down, .....then report back.
I got it!!! but I really do not need to see the lap time breakdown...if it was any less than .5 (which I know and that was also used loosely) meant I am even MORE surprised and impressed he was able to keep that pace at the top of this field in the fastest 2 wheeled sport on earth with the best riders on earth as well..... PS ur analogy was too loose to compare...and I am relaxed because I took the former DOUBLE world champion at his word!! BTW I am a huge Rossi fan and glad he won and hope he gets his 10th title this year!

MotoGP » Helmet issue 'cost Lorenzo chance of victory'

Realist:
therealDave: I have ridden with a fogged up visor and it was hard to see......
I'd say a fogged visor is quite different.............wouldn't you? Lorenzo's issue was akin to driving your car with your sun visors down. An irritant (if they are down unintentionally), but they won't impair your driving that much....if at all. A foggy windshield, however, is a very different beast.
So you are saying riding a motorcycle at 220mph/355kph with JL's helmet issue is similar to driving your car around town with the visor down?????? Really???? that is what you are saying?? OK..no prob...what I am saying is, I am surprised it only affected him by .5 second per lap and not more... He led and fought for the lead for most of the race...how do you explain his drop in pace if it was NOT due to tyre issues????? Maybe he lost talent and ability in the last 4 laps? Fitness? not after Malaysia where he did the most work to disprove that!!!

MotoGP » Helmet issue 'cost Lorenzo chance of victory'

Bro...My issue is the distain JL gets for giving his reason for his faltered challenge. He said he could challenge for the win not that he would outright win it!!! He did not discredit Rossi's win or any other rider on the podium. Just as MM did not say he would definitively win and beat Rossi...just that had they not had their own personal issue during the race they believe that they could have "challenged (being the key word)" for the win. With .174 separating first and second...3rd place would have also been considered a challenge if it was .175....point is, the rider believed and proved his worth in the race by leading and challenging for the lead for most of the race. His drop in pace is not explained by tyre wear nor lack of fitness... He told us the issue...why is it hard to believe him?... if this thread was about why Bautista could not challenging for the win because of a helmet issue...I would totally get it...but this is a double world champion who we know can and has won ra

MotoGP » Helmet issue 'cost Lorenzo chance of victory'

Lorenzo led and challenged for the lead for most of the race and then fell away in last few laps. It was not a tyre issue as I at first supposed....I am pretty sure he did not lose talent and ability in the last 4 laps. Everyone realized that something was wrong as his paced suddenly waned. I believe Rossi would have still won as he battled from 10th to catch an pass Lorenzo. Also he did that after catching Lorenzo and passing Lorenzo before he had his helmet issue. But the drafting here makes the dash to the line and the win uncertain for even the fastest rider on a night when Dovi could have well taken the win with the pony power of the Ducati!! Rossi was the fastest tonight and used the right strategy but all could have been undone by the draft or horse power deficit.... Bottom line is, as a Rossi fan I am happy, but I also believe Lorenzo's reason...he could have "challenged" for first IMHO...but I think Rossi would have still won....
