MotoGP » Ducati Open or Factory? The wait continues…

shpongled: Worth remembering that Duc took the open decision in the interests of development, not 2014 results. I fear they might have pushed their luck by trying to impose their ecu though - that's got nothing to do with mechanical development, if anything the increased variables provided by their ecu could shadow mechanical feedback. I think Duc should have waited before dropping the ecu-bomb...... If you bend something far enough or often enough it will break......
Neither Ducati nor Marelli have "officially" comeout and said the new software is basically Ducati's factory software..it has only been implied/accused/ question by Honda when Marelli announced its cmplicated update, just days before Ducati announced its OPEN class intentions which prompted DORNA to take a look....with the software being available to all OPEN class, they, Ducati probably thought it would be fine.

MotoGP » Moto2: Lowes makes mark despite wrist pain

I really hope Sam does well....mostly to put the old "SSP and WSBK riders" don't/cannot do well in GPs... Crutchlow and Spies should have put that to rest but some people are still on it. Ben was rookie of the year 2010 and won a GP 2011 but his last 2 years have put that under the radar.. Cal has done well despite a struggling rookie year....Ducati certainly sees potential.. and Tech 3 wanted him to stay... So yea...I want this lad (Sam) to do well and show that if its on 2 wheels it can be ridden by any good rider not just those coming up in GPs.

MotoGP » Official: Movistar returns to MotoGP with Yamaha

cheating would imply a direct infraction of established/written rules...there was not a written rule on this matter..the team knew that better grip on the grid would give a better launch and they cleaned it in front of people not in the dark! hiding after hours etc etc!!! it was done after practice if I remember correctly but not in hiding! many other riders had done it prior without penalty... The story is retold as cheating but no such verdict exist!! only a decision of unfair advantage much like the new rule of engines...exceeding the amount gives an unfair advantage and results in a back of grid start not disqualification..only difference is this engine rule is written in the rulebook!!

I agree with many on here Why all the rule changes??!!! just do a techical review of the software (Ducati and Open) and determine whether they are the same or not. If they are they same then restrict its use until next year (2015) when all Open teams will have a better grasp of using it!!! and continue with the current plan of using the standard version. Allow all OPEN teams to test the software throughout the year and develop it, then when they are all ready to use it...allow it, on DORNA's schedule not on Ducati's or Honda's terms. If Ducati does not want to comply with the technical review (because of proprietary reasons or other) then ban the software until all/most OPEN teams are ready to use it!! Preferably next year or mid-season this year if it improves the racing for all OPEN teams and MotoGP!

Garcia:
Right, the long term aim of the Open class is to reduce costs for all teams. Yet we are one software upgrade in and already none of the Open Class teams can afford it.
DIsagree....one upgrade in ....no change of price...that was never an issue. The only issue with the software is that it is too complex and none of the other teams have experience with it YET!! The software has been given/made available to all open teams!!! The argument is that, it is basically the Ducati factory software (developed by Magneti Marrelli) and only they know how to use it (right now) thereby negating the whole aspec of switching to OPEN class...if they are basically keeping their factory software!!!

MotoGP » MotoGP Factory 2 triggered by Ducati 'advantage'

My only problem is that they changed the rules and a race has not been started yet!! Ducati was 30 secs behind in every race...they really believe that Ducat will all of a sudden be title contenders????? They have had really no time to develop any significant changes with OPEN rules and doubt they will be any further by season opener.... I say 4 to 6 races in, reevaluate for unfair advantage...let this be known now!! and adjust the rules to compensate at that time. This has been done forever in racing...so what is with this knee jerk reaction of Factory 2??!! Secondly, why permit Ducati to use the new updated open software when no one else has the ability to use it yet???.I say keep it as a background program until mid season...encourage teams to get up to speed with it in testing only and then implement it on a set schedule (mid season or next year) pending DORNA approval!! PERIOD!!!

MotoGP » MotoGP Factory 2 triggered by Ducati 'advantage'

There was not a need for a factory 2 class...simply a tech review every 6 races to verify and validate the results and determine an unfair advantage. If Ducati is the only one capable of using the new software then it should not be used until most open teams have implemented it...plain and simple! The restrictions for the new Factory 2 category could simply be the mandated restrictions based on the tech review and results because ..what if Ducati, going for its first third place rostrom when the leaders take each other out and they inherit 1st place???? Would DORNA impose the Factory 2 rules for that? even though we know they were not technically on par with Honda/Yamaha...so now we have handicapped them on a mere stroke of luck and not a technical advantage of the OPEN class. What if these rules, directed at Ducati, bears no fruit and in fact Esparago accomplishes these results? does these factory 2 rules apply to him as well?

MotoGP » Rossi signs off with speedy simulation

unmudura: @Joeski Work both ways.Ducati that Rossi tested at Valencia'10 got a pole and second in race 2days before, enough to raise some doubts.Ducati gave a lot to Rossi, not only 15mil./year,but not enough since they weren't able to change bike nature overnight. In first Ducati press conference,Rossi blames his back not bike. So,not only Burgess 80sec. story bite him back, his propaganda harm him in the end since he wasn't able to win on a Piaggio as told.
Good point..however we all know now that the Ducati was a one rider bike! 15 mil and yet they never fixed the bike....their "solutions" were too long in coming and they could not keep pace with development. It took Honda 1 test to give Pedro and Stoner new chassis' in laguna while Ducati waited 3 months for one change...too slow in responding to rider needs at this level..

unmudura: @herewego Gee...your quoting Senna,before or after Suzuka'90? Rossi-Gibernau...has roots in Qatar'04.Rossi crew laid rubber ahead of bike with scooters to have a better grip starting.That isn't in the S P I R I T,yeah...spirit of racing,more cheating.Anyway,got demoted from grid and blamed Gibernau,curse included...how's that?Sure not in S P I R I T...
Sorry ummudura...your memory deceives you. Rossi was not involved in that incident...his team went out and "cleaned the grid" not "laid rubber." It was also not done in private and there was one other rider who was involved....Sete saw the whole deal and eventhough it was not against any rule written in the book...the act was deemed as giving an unfair advantage and never listed as cheating hence the back of the grid start as opposed to disqualification!
