MotoGP » Cal Crutchlow talks Open MotoGP move

titfortat: Funny how he always wanted a factory ride, now he doesn't have one again lol...
It is a factory ride on OPEN rules... you are all hung up on the term "factory" in accordance with MotoGP's definition. The Team is a Factory team competing in OPEN category...it is called Ducati and they pay his check!! So much for all those who thought CAL would be upset....PS Cal and DOVI knew about this long before the test but were told to "tight lip" it. I will bet money that they even had a say in it or at least got a vote once GiGi showed them the long term plan to put them up at the front of the field versus the current option! not that anyone on here or anywhere else did not realize this was the way forward for development....how else can you develop with a development freeze?????? They NEEDED to do this!!

MotoGP » Lorenzo: It's impossible to be competitive

herewego: Well, it just goes to show, riders these days need a perfect bike or they don't stand a chance!! That's progress for you !!
I think it has more to do with the level of engineering... if you ask me JL did a lot to improve and adapt... he is, of course upset, because human ability cannot make up for mechanical or electronic deficiency in this era where everything is so close to the razor's edge. Back in the day they complained about different things...like making up 2 seconds...today it is about making up a tenth here and a tenth there!! The language of time (in racing terms) has changed so much since a decade or 2 ago hence the compaints for perfection because everyone else is operating on this level of perfection. The bar has moved. Last year Rossi was about .4 off on pace...look where he ended up in the races, so of course JL is upset ..he is .6 or .7 off....

MotoGP » Rossi takes top spot with Pedrosa in Malaysia

The 2014 tires are more of a advantage to Honda..... so how would this tire introduction be some conspiracy to make Rossi faster than JLo? when they would in turn hand Honda the biggest advantage and quite possibly the title at the end of the year?.... Its getting ridiculous fellas...even your conspiracies lack coherent thought. The tires suck for everyone and at some time (couple years ago) the tide was different. Certain solutions that bridgetones came with favored one make over another not by intent but by mere design. Honda had to go to the drawing board 2 years ago and tossed 100 chassis to fix chatter from new bridgestones that coincidentally favored Yamaha and now the situation is reversed....if 'stones kept disadvantaging Hondas year in and year out then I could/may agree with you!! and certainly not with these controlled tires...your conspiracy theories are all carry over from open competition and even though they do not apply to controlled tires people keep using them!! MotoGP » Rossi takes top spot with Pedrosa in Malaysia

What is with the conspiracies? Jlo is having issues mostly because he rides on the edge of the tyre which the 2013 bridgestones were great for. This year, 2014 Bridgestone has brought something that does not perform as well on the edge so JLo suffers more than Rossi with this because of his riding style!! Rossi does not like it either because he still has to use the edge of the tire but he just does not use it as much as JLo...no racing fan on here is perplexed by this!! but someone has to bring some conspiracy into it. Rossi is and was always fast. With a a year under his belt on the new 1000 yamaha, they built a bike that improves on hard braking (a condition that even Lorenzo complained about last year) that particularly affects Rossi because of his riding style. Now the braking is fixed/improved (just like Dovi on Ducati) Rossi is competing at the front...so was JLo until this new tyre.

MotoGP » Dovizioso puts Ducati in contention at Sepang

I like Dovi. Not sure if he is under or overrated. I think he is rated right where he is at... the fact that he went from satellite to factory back to satellite and made it back onto a factory bike....at a minimum, shows his value and ability!!! but...there is always a but... I do not believe Dovi is a world title contending rider (he could not do it on the Honda PS I do not believe Honda handicapped him in his first 2 years...maybe in his third year when he had to enforce his contract). He is a podium challenger which in my eyes means he has earned his way on this grid not because of his nationality but his ability!!

MotoGP » Official: Ducati goes Open class for MotoGP 2014

Reese: Not sure if its been mentioned b4 but wouldn't it make sense to just switch everything to open class? More fuel more mods allowed!?! Just a thought.
Reese not sure if anyone answered you but that is the idea that MotoGP is going for but it is more complicate than that. HOnda has threaten to leave (because of a lack of development room that they need for their road bikes and they use MototGP for this) if it all goes to an OPEN class and they have to use the controlled software. Right now Yamaha and Honda have opted to stick with the factory status by using their own software with the standard ECU because they know it is a bigger advantage. DORNA may be on the fence and I am not sure if they are willing to risk a Honda pull out just yet but if everyoe switches eventually maybe Honda will follow suit!

MotoGP » Cal Crutchlow talks Open MotoGP move

PS.. Factory status in MotoGP definition means without the controlled software... that is it period!!! Factory teams...i.e. entered and supported by the factory itself can compete in OPEN class/category by opting to run the controlled software. A fact (sad or otherwise) missed by some on here and Honda, that ended up spending millions on a producton Honda when they could have used their current bike...Yamaha did it with Forward and Ducati began that mission last year when they decided on Yonny's ride!! The Ducati decision to switch all their bikes to OPEN is the only new news!! So I am not sure why all the fuss when the error is really on the assumption some made about what constitutes an OPEN bike!!

MotoGP » Official: Ducati goes Open class for MotoGP 2014

shamarone: re: "The idea is to have everyone go to this system for parity" bad idea. can't get there from here. re: "that is unrealistic for anyone else (even Ducati)" ok what about owners VW/Audi/Lambo/Bugatti...? wait, doesn't a Veyron cost like $3 million dollars...?
I do not disagree with you about the bad idea! just that its the idea! RE: VW...bad business!!! You do not take money from one venture to pay for the failings of the other. Ducati was bought as a profitable venture...using Bugatti funds to cover Ducati was never in the game... I guess people thought that money was gonna flow endlessly now that AUdi/VW is here! WRONG!!
