MotoGP » Honda decided against Stoner MotoGP return?

Emotion wanted him back...logic dictated the better option. I am a Rossi fan but had tons of respect for Stoner (even if I disagreed with his reasoning about the 2008 Laguna battle). If he came back and ended up 8th or worst....the vultures on here would not have cared that he had not ridden competitively for over 2 seasons and that he did not know the 2 tracks that he would have to contest. They would all act like he never left and should be competing to best Rossi and Marquez.... Good decision...but would have loved to see him come back

If you believe Stoner would have been on the podium much less beat Rossi.. Short of a mechanical or crash... You have more "blind" faith in Stoner than his own former boss would worked with him since 2007 even at Ducati when it was a POS.... I will even bet money that although Stoner was interested to ride he eventually agreed with Suppo because he knew how ungrateful MotoGP fans were. Some would be happy to see him back on track without judging his results...most would be waiting to stick a fork in his back if he underperform...which Suppo and Stoner obviously came to the conclusion would be the case because of "the cons" His return might have been possible if it were at 2 familiar tracks to him...

Garry: I don't blame him.....
Your pathetic h@te has impaired you ability to read. The story seems to point to stoner being keen to ride. Don't forget this is a rider who beat Rossi more often than Rossi beat him, while spending most of his time riding the pos ducati.
Not sure why you are mad at the previous poster....yes Stoner had an interest to ride...Suppo and Stoner took the decision not to because his return would not have been judged as just for fun and people would have a pound of flesh if he were to finish off the podium which is almost certain... Livio Suppo said so....Stoner has no experience of these tracks and he has barely ridden this new bike...or any competitive bike for that matter for over 2 season...neither expected a competitive result hence the decision...

UserM4: Btw, remember Valencia 2006, Troy Bayliss rode a wildcard Ducati for injured Sete Gibernau and won the race! #anythingcanhappen
Really??? Come on.... Troy also was the WSBK Champion at the time... meaning he was in the best shape of his life and riding competitively for the entire year, plus he had 2 years of MotoGP experience under his belt on the ducati as well.... Stoner has not competed on a motorcycle in over 2 seasons!!!! and almost every lap/race record has fallen since he last competed by MM and others....and you expect he will come back and win??? WOW....

The above statement is probably why Suppo told Casey not to return... because of that unrealistic outlook by both fans for and against him. What ever he accomplishes, which would most likely be outside of the top 5, he will be stabbed and poked as a loser by many and the expectation of wins and podiums from a retired champ is not realistic...hell Stoner even said he was going to "begin" training for the 8 hr Suzuka scheduled for JULY!!!!!...which probably means he is not in racing shape for MotoGP...this weekend... As great as his return would be...PS I want him to ride because he does not have the burden of pressure with me and it would be effing great to see him on track again...but let's just say he could only surprise me because in this field and at COTA where even Smith seems quick and Cal was pretty dang good on the Tech 3 as well, I would be surprised and happy for him if he placed higher than 7th.... just an opinion

MotoGP » ‘All concessions’ continue in MotoGP 2016

".. i thought limiting fuel, engines and engine freeze should help reduce/maintain cost." Common misconception....developing an engine that last longer, functions on less fuel but makes the same or more horsepower... Requires a massive budget for R&D... It actually made racing more expensive to develop such tech as each manufacturer sought to out do each other... Only factories could compete which left private teams even more behind... Hence the CRT then OPEN concessions to allow smaller (or under performing) teams to catch up.

“In 2016 a manufacturer achieving six Concession Points in dry or wet conditions will immediately lose the right to test with contracted riders and will lose all concessions from the following season. "In general the concessions will be easier to get (no podiums in 2016 = full concessions for the next season), but easier to lose." These 2 statements should alleviate your fears. 6 points and with immediate effect they will lose the unlimited testing with contracted riders. That is only 2 wins in wet or dry or 3 second places, easier to get if they fail but easier to lose.. I think this is an excellent compromise even though I still think the wins for loss of concessions should only be if accomplished in the dry.

Cheppy:
ar86: Stupid tyre concession.
Stupid fuel concession too. The more you burn the fuel and the more power you get from engine. That's why Ducati has more straight line power than Honda and Yamaha. However, ....because Ducati bike was racing with fuel and Tyres advantage over Honda and Yamaha bikes.
Agreed...factory 2 teams should use same tyres and have same fuel allocation as Factory. But what of the privateer teams? They need the help of more fuel. So if that's agreed then you will have a 3 tier championship again where privateer, factory 2 and factory have different rules. DORNA are trying to go to a main unified rule where one set of agreed concessions are given for those who did not win/podium in any races in the prior season all under the common ECU.

@Grantrd I meant no disrespect bro... I just meant you may not have followed all the stories regarding this topic. We knew they were debating the engine allocation for a while, which has now been decided at 7. We knew last year that the UNIFIED class was directed at the common ECU. We also knew last year that the standard fuel allocation was going to be 22 liters. However, it was announced that the rest is being deliberated. About October last year they announced that the unified rules would still allow concessions for certain teams to compete but at the time, they were debating the engine allocation. So basically, I am not seeing the sudden change you are talking about, and the same manufacturers that you are saying will leave are the ones making the unanimous decision with DORNA..as was also announced.

@ Grantrd You are only surprised because you have not been following the development. I knew in summer last year that the concessions were not going away (yes I was surprised back then but I understand why now), we just did not know what amendments would be made...like the stupid tyre thing..get rid of it already. KTM will not enter MotoGP if the concessions go away!!! They publicly announced that the concessions were why they were considering to enter and the concessions were the reason Aprilia came back early!! If they are not given the room to develop to catch up Yamaha and Honda (and now Ducati) then they will leave because there is no reason to compete if they do not stand a chance of winning!! The concessions give these new teams the possibility of competing for the top position!! Once they catch up (i.e. meet the criteria) then they will lose it all... but it had to start somewhere...
