F1 » Mercedes admits engine update was ‘risky’

stuart.tooley: As Mercedes have used so few of their allocation why did they not give Nico another brand new unit?
The second of the only 2 new engines that shipped to the race showed up at lunch time friday. No more available.
that is not the point , rob. merc had a number of less used versions of the previous spec, but chose to use the one at the end of its life.

F1 » Ricciardo: Closed cockpits last piece of puzzle

107SS2009: A close cockpits formula one will most probably not happen.
i would go further and say that they will NOT happen. formula 1 is the (or is supposed to be) the epitome of OPEN WHEEL and OPEN COCKPIT racing. so close them in and it is no longer the formula to aim for. yes, there may well be increased safety but any recent fatalities have been as a result of parts coming off another car. surtees....a wheel tether broke. wilson, ...a quick fit nose came off another car. so the answer is to ensure that parts cannot fly off another car!

F1 » Red Bull may not bother with Renault’s ‘Sochi update’

lovef1. well said! rbr have done more for f1 in the short time they have been in, other than ferrari. in fact it could well be argued that rb saved f1. take away 2 teams and bernie wont be able to field the required numbers guaranteed. and just an added comment....i have an inkling that rb might just spring a surprise on us with an engine announcement. the signs were there in 2014 that there is an alternative. watch this space.

F1 » Manor: We are punching above our weight

Taipan: With Renault looking likely to take over Lotus Merc will be looking for another team to supply engines to and it looks like their preferred option is Manor.
that really is an odd rumour! currently merc supply 5 teams which is one more than supposedly allowed under the rules. they say they wont supply rbr (presumably in place of lotus) and are now "talking" to a team that cannot get anywhere with a ferrari engine? i admire manor for perservering, but really, they should drop out rather than be uncompetitive. and if the rumoured legal action against them from two families comes to fruition, they will be bunched! it looks as if merc want f1 to be a single engine series, but dont want competition.

F1 » Hamilton apologises for Wilson tribute blunder

MrJones85: At the end of the day Lewis Hamilton's time in F1 will be judged by his driving record.
i doubt that lulu will be remembered for his "achievements" which are very very few. but he will always be remembered for his arrogance and bad manners, and maybe for being a gangsta, man. remember james hunt? not remembered for being a wdc, but remembered because he was a smoker, womaniser, drug user etc a person is remembered for how they conduct themselves. stirling moss was never a wdc but is remembered because he is a gentleman.

F1 » Renault decision due in ‘next two weeks’

rob. total go hand in hand with renault. and whichever engine that rbr get, they will come with a fuels contract too! and infiniti was only added due to renault wanting to promote their nissan connection. rbr certainly are not reliant on it. as for your comments about didi? i think that you will find that his company has sponsored and promoted far more sports , series etc than f1. finding extra money if needed would be no problem, but some other sports might suffer. and if rbr get a good engine, i am sure that there will be many new sponsors anxious and willing to climb aboard a team that has been more successful than nearly every other team on the grid.
