F1 » Vettel defends Ferrari after Pirelli ‘risk’ claim

ProfessorX:
George Zaidan: If Pirelli says the tires are good for 40 laps they should be good for the worse case senerio. No matter how you slice it 40 laps is 40 laps. ...
you really think a Pirelli tire would stand up to 40 qualifying laps? No matter how you slice it, tire have been going off at Spa for a while, and busting track limits left and right isn't going to help your case. F1 is all about making money while leveraging the risks on the drivers and smaller teams. Facts are Spa is hard on tires, Pirelli doesn't get to do enough testing, the teams don't get to do enough testing. The solution is bring back multiple tire manufacturers and appreciate competition, stop with this saving money mantra that is really code for maximize profit and hope for people who want drama more than legit racing.

107SS2009:
George Zaidan: ProfessorX: no manufacturing company will claim a product will do something it wouldn't without facing liability issues. It is Pirelli responsibility to put their product under all sorts of stresses to deem them feasible for racing. They have all the right to guarantee them for only 10 laps if that is what they feel it will only last.
George, not to mention that such a critical item like a tyre will be declared safe to use for xxx number of laps "less the standard and obligatory safety factor.
absolutely sunny, Pirelli it seems are liable and are trying to cover their butts. see my edited post.

ProfessorX: no manufacturing company will claim a product will do something it wouldn't without facing liability issues. It is Pirelli's responsibility to put their product under all sorts of stresses and tests to deem them feasible for racing. They have all the right to guarantee them for only 10 laps if that is what they feel it will only last. No one told them to say their tires will last 40 laps when it couldn't. Spa or no Spa and especially Spa. In fact if a manufacturer was to produce a shoddy product for gain and it harms the public they can be sued for negligence.

F1 » FIA to study closed-cockpit concepts

I believe safety helmets take the place of closed cockpits, and if they need further improvements that's also fine. I do not like the closed cockpit idea. Imagine the heat the drivers will have to endure, it wasn't too long ago some were complaining about hot seats. Nothing like new air conditioning systems and closed cockpits to save some more of that so called F1 costs.

Has anyone suggested air bags yet? How about side rubber guard rails? Maybe 3 sessions of qualifying with only one driver on track for his run and winner takes all. Maybe the cars can be radio controlled from the pits no drivers will be harmed unless of course they hurt or break their thumbs becoming excessively excited or aggressive with the remote control.

F1 » What we learned at the Belgian Grand Prix

MrJones85:
rob01:
Taipan: What we learned at Spa? Stevie Wonder could probably win in that Merc, and Nico Rosberg can't.... At one point in the second half of the race the Merc's were 3 seconds a lap faster than Vettel in 3rd, that shows the sort of advantage that the merc still has over the field.
He was on worn tires. Grosjean was catching him quicly.
To be honest Rob if that tire didn't blow I think Vettel would've held on to the last podium spot.
Even Grosjean said he couldn't have been able to pass Vettel, but then again what does Grosjean know.
