F1 » Alonso: Result won't look good in Austria due to penalties

In my opinion a standard requirement should be set for all aspects of the F1 car and teams should be allowed to reach those standards no matter when, where and what it takes in cost through out the season. We are only in the 8th race of the season and McLaren and RBR will be penalized and sent to the back on the grid... as if they aren't in the back enough. It is really stupid to have cars on the grid that lack real testing to show the ultimate power, speed and reliability of these cars and their advanced technology. Just because one or two teams has it right on the get go does not mean the other teams should just make do with shoddy cars that lack any real chance of competing and leaves the fans with second rate experience. In my line of work when we spec out products we always suggest 3 companies and add equal or better for any other preferred company. Enough of this farce they call rules already.

F1 » Alonso: Result won't look good in Austria due to penalties

There doesn't seem to be any money restrictions when it comes to Bernie Ecclestone making a profit, in fact he is succeeding in driving out race venues because of what he charges. Yet when it comes to the folks that give the fans the real thrill he and the FIA decides that cost is too high. When I walk into a building I care less about what's holding up the building or how structurally sound it is I admire only the aesthetics and how beautiful it is. The same can be said for the F1, we watch for the thrill and not for what teams are able to afford to join. If costs gets too high teams adjust but they should never be forced to NOT give the best they can give.
