F1 » Pirelli ready as Circuit of the Americas gets thumbs up from drivers

A couple of weeks ago I contacted COTA, asking for ticket prices and motor home parking fees. What they sent back was shocking, to say the least. $3,900 for a 4 day ticket for one person. This includes a mandatory room at the Austin hotel. $15,000, yes, that's fifteen thousand, for an annual motorhome pass, mandatory two year agreement. That's 30 grand to park your frickin' motorhome. This gets you access to two F1 events. If you don't purchase tickets for the other events scheduled, COTA reserves the right to sell you parking space for those events. Needles to say, I won't be attending. And my respect for Mario is no longer what it used to be. I know there is a non-COTA website that is selling tickets for considerably less, but these COTA guys have some gall, I would say.

F1 » Coulthard confirms DTM exit, retirement

I never made Coulthard out to be rubbish. I said he was an average driver, nothing more, nothing less. I'm certain if you do the research you'll find that Coulthard scored many points less than his teammates. As I recall, both Williams and McLaren drivers either won WDCs or finished second for a good share of the years Coulthard drove for them. Coulthard did manage a second, his best ever, in the WDC in 2001.

F1 » JYS: Vettel no F1 great

I think there's a symbiotic relationship between great cars(designers) and great drivers. They inspire one another. Teams are a different matter. The best ones collect the best talent available, whether it's the car driver or transport driver. The best teams also raise the most money. Ron Dennis understood that raising money was part of the competition. I don't think Frank Williams had that understanding to the degree that Dennis has.

F1 » Ecclestone: No London GP without government funding

Yak, I contacted COTA Saturday. They emailed me the prices I quoted. The RV parking quotes are what really twisted me off. Unless I'm really out of it, these COTA guys will kill F! at their track before it gets off the ground. They must think they are Bernie Eccelstone. I live in Florida and attend the Sebring 12 Hour with my son. I pay $85 to park my motor home trackside and tickets run me less than $100 for a four day ticket.

F1 » Ecclestone: No London GP without government funding

Has anyone checked out the prices of the F1 race at Circuit of Americas, Austin, Texas? I have. Cheapest ticket is $3,199. You have to buy a package that includes a room for four nights at the Austin Hotel. The motor home parking has an annual fee of $15,000, with a two year mandatory commitment, that's $30,000 to park your RV for two F1 races. Any other events require you to purchase tickets for that event or COTA reserves the right to sell your RV space for the events you don't buy tickets for. I've been a F1 fan since Jim Clark was winning championships. I've attended motor sports events of every type imaginable from F1 to tractor pulls. There is no way in hell I would pay the prices those elitist pricks from COTA are asking. My fervent hope is that in five years there are weeds growing through the track surface in Austin.
