I don't think Colin is the brightest bulb in the room. His comment about him being a right-wing extremist pretty well rips it for me. Just what the world needs more of, an extremist with a .50 caliber.

I don't have any stats on F1 TV audience, but I'm assuming most race fans generally react the same way. When they see an almost empty track venue on TV, interest wanes. I know it does with me.

Jan, I agree with your comment about TV viewers. Unfortunately, there seems to be a correlation between number of track spectators and size of TV audience. I know it's worked out that way with Nascar and the IRL. Both track attendance and TV audience are down. I can't imagine why F1 would be any different. One would think with a down turned economy more people would be in front of the tube.

F1 is in a lot sorrier shape than most of us recognize, according to some industry insiders. A large part of the problem seems to be racing in countries that have little or no interest in F1. It's good for Bernie because he extracts huge fees regardless of how few fans show up. It's bad for sponsors, the life-blood of racing, to have their product exposed to so few potential customers. This is especially true in countries where the price of a Grand Prix ticket is some 25%-50% of a person's annual wages. Unless FOTA can get control of where they race, teams will have a lot less money to race with. Signing the Concorde agreement will not bring about the changes for F1 to survive as we know it.

Nelson Piquet Jr. is one of those types, if you bought him for what he's worth and then sold him for what he thought he was worth, you'd make a lot of money.

Max and Bernie are like vampires. You have to drive a stake through their heart to kill them. FOTA had it's chance, but folded in the end. Max and Bernie will view this signing of the Concorde agreement as a sign of weakness rather than a conciliatory move by FOTA.

WSooper is pretty neat this year. Four different makes on the top box, two new manufactures, one of which has a win, the other may see the checkers first before the season is over. Add to that a rookie has more than a good shot at the title. Does it get any better?

Although I realize there have been a few under-performing US drivers, let's not forget the two US F1 World Champions, Phil Hill and Mario Andretti. Of equal or better ability was Dan Gurney. Peter Revson, two wins and eight podiums of thirty-one races, was of great promise. Montoya, not an American but a CART champ, was certainly not lacking for speed, either. With the exception of Montoya, it's as if winning the CART championship is a curse- Michael Andretti, Alex Zanardi, Cristiano daMatta, Sebastian Bourdais. I forgot to included Scott Speed as an under-performer.

Although I would NEVER count Ross Brawn out, he may be in for a real challenge from Newey/Red Bull. I'm liking how this season is shaping up.
