I think there are more than a few who could have won the WDC if driving a Newey designed car. Alonso, Hamilton, Raikkonen , to name three. Red Bull is going to be tough to beat as long as Newey stays. Vettel will only get better as time goes by.

Schumacher has pulled some questionable stunts over the years. When he nearly forced Barrichello into the wall at Hungary, 2010, I lost all respect for him. Good to see him go.

It appears that today's F1 driver are more specialized than those of yesteryear. Gurney, Clark, G. Hill, Andretti are some examples of F1 drivers who also excelled in other motorsport disciplines. Andretti, arguably being the more successful. F1 champion, USAC champion, CART champion, IROC champion, Indy 500 winner, Daytona 500 winner and Sebring winner. It appears the transition from F1 to other series, or from others to F1, is more difficult today. The driver who made the biggest successful transition, is John Surtees.

Been hearing the same from 2nd best of the team drivers forever. I guess it's the competitive instinct. Just won't let them admit they can be bested by someone given equal equipment. Mark's one hell of a good driver, but he ain't no Vettel

Personally, I would prefer Alonso as WDC, but not by the FIA punishing Vettel. Yellow flags notwithstanding, Vettel won the championship by scoring more points than Alonso. Build a faster car than everyone else, Ferrari, and Alonso will be champion in 2013.

I recall a F1 team winning five constructors championships in a row, 1992-1997. Williams. Seems that Adrian Newey was involved in that, as well. Newey is the key. Build a winning car and winning drivers will drive it. Witness Senna's depart from McLaren to Williams in 1994. Can't quite figure out Hamilton leaving Mac for Merc. Time will tell.
