mark: my "quote" is more of a general comment on the typical posts seen here and on other forums. I can't give an answer. If I could I would be a multi millionnaire instead of an optician. Essentially I agree with you. Kowtow-ing to bullies is never the answer and eventually I believe FOM will collapse under the weight of its own debt. This will have serious ramifications for the sport as the protracted legal arguments would kill F1 racing for months (years?) Sadly, all parties to F1 have sold themselves on the dream of champagne riches only to discover that they will soon have a lemonade budget. Incidently, the same argument has been raging about UK Banks, inc F1 fav. RBS

I am not being simplistic. Consider your remark: if you look at CVC website you will see the nature of the company, and the small part FOM plays in it. Bernie is one shareholder in more than we can name. FOM owes billions. CVC are desperatly trying to off load its debt. Bernie needs to negotiate the highest fees to service the debt. A tedious discussion about "Bernie is a greedy little ...." adds nothing to the debate about the structure of the F1 calendar which (and lets be honest) is the only thing relevant to us.

The race fee isn't profit: 50% goes to the teams and all other fees/costs are met by FOM. I would estimate some 20% of the fees are profit. I am not an admirer of Bernie, nor do I support his business methods, however a lot of the commentators in these forums have a very simplistic view of life. Bernie is an employee of CVC. His job is to get the best deal for his employer. It does not line his pockets. I do wish people would try and look at the bigger picture. It is a matter of business not vindictiveness.

Andrew: my apologies, if i misread the situation. It always seems that we are retreading the same ground and it is making me a bit grumpy now.

The same tired arguments over and over again. The circular nature of these discussions is really tedious. It is reaching a point where the facts need to be restated. 1) Donington tried and failed to raise the funding 2) Silverstone have the funding but don't want to pay the escalating fees 3) There maybe a bidder for whats left of the DVLL assets who may want to stage a GP. They will need MILLIONS. If it couldn't be found before it is unlikely to be found now. 4) Mudplugger, Andrew mac and Richard all need their heads banging together and should try to stop hurling petty insults. THIS IS A SPORT AND A HOBBY, IT IS NOT A SERIOUS MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH

Andrew, I have sat on the banking at Silverstone for every Grand prix since 1999. I have never been bored, unlike races at Barcelona, Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Hungary, or Valencia.

Disregarding the heritage of our sport is tantamount to destroying it. Those that ignore it or fail to understand it are cut from the same cloth as CVC and their senior employees. The sport needs the backbone of its traditions as well as the new identikit circuits vomited from the pen of Tilke GMbH.

Silverstone provides great facilities for spectators, I spectate at Silverstone on average once a month. I thoroughly enjoy myself there, far more than at Donny, Snetterton, or Brands. I have no connection with Silverstone other than as a spectator. Your hostility towards Silverstone is (and I respect your opinion) in direct opposition to my admiration for the acheivements of the members of the BRDC, calling them cretins when they have no part to play in the running of the circuit is puzzling and unduly harsh. Perhaps jealousy is to blame. The circuit is managed by a company owned by the BRDC but not run by them.

Andrew: you are very much allowed to go against the majority. I am sure you are a grand chap and please don't take this personally. It is not your views that I take issue with, neither your right to express them, merely the frequency and monotony of the posts. I feel the topic is being hijacked and simply becomes a slanging match between 2 parties (usually between you and Richard). I wish people would refrain from repeating themselves and rehearsing the same tired argument. Oh, and I really wish people would stop saying "simples". It is nearly as irritating as "whassup" used to be.
