@Rich ard - I wouldn't worry about how many people disagree. It is nice to have sensible comment though isn't it.

Honda F1 saved – but only for first four grands prix?
@stivala sunny - I really don't think BE should be involved in a race team at all. His official position as rights owner makes any other role highly suspect. His "favourite" red cars getting a very undemocratic extra large financial package being a case in point. In addition, his support for MM also makes him a very poor judge of character in any event, neither being my favourite people to run the sport in any case. I also wish Ross Brawn and the "Honda" team well. We need all the teams we can get!

Public transport only to Donington GP.
@frank Just a question. Many tracks use helicopters to provide really good shots, the one at Spa this year was superb. In addition, in the past, helicopters were used to relay on-board pictures and other telemetry back to the main studios or race facilities, perhaps other methods are now in use, I don't know. But I wonder whether the airport might object to the use of helicopter based cameras at Donington. I hope your optimism is well founded and that we have a wonderful British GP. I just have this feeling that there is another agenda here which does not bode well for the future of a British GP at all.

@ rich ard Finally, Britain cannot be allowed to lose its GP and I am sure that the BDRC would be happy to host 2009 if Bernie was to approach them.

Public transport only to Donington GP.
@frank and rich ard Regrettably, I can see us having no GP this coming season. How is Donington is going to develop sensible and practical infrastructure and facilities ready in time? Also if public confidence in their ability to provide a proper venue wanes then lack of ticket sales will almost certainly mean a bankrupt promoter. Something Canada, China and Malaysia can all attest to. This is a tragedy and possibly a travesty as well. It seems that a minor disagreement between the BDRC and Bernie has meant that he has chosen a site that is patently not prepared and has no way of supporting such a major event.

@frank I think the point most people are making is that although Donnington as a race track is absolutely fine, with some of the best and most exiting bits currently on any circuit, the position, infrastructure and facilities make it unfit for purpose at present. Furthermore, does anyone organisation at Donnington (or anywhere else) have the money now to make the necessary improvements, including access etc. The answer is obviously NO, otherwise they wouldn't be coming up with this hairbrained scheme. I hope the organisers don't go bankrupt next year but I suspect that is precisely where they are headed. Going back to Silverstone makes perfect sense. It's a great track and is ready now.

@Brian Clark Without getting too silly, why don't we just let Mad Max and Bernie decide that the red cars will win every race (after all it's what they tried to do this year and failed - just), declare the winners at the beginning of the season and we can all save a fortune on travel, keep our carbon footprint to a minimum, stop all that crazy expensive investment in new aero, engines and stuff and save all those fuel bills. This will mean that we can all go and do something useful each race weekend, like watch proper racing with Valentino Rossi and his pals.

@Brian Clark I would vote for all Brian's ideas, they are a darned sight more sensible than anything Bernie has come up with so far for a British Grand Prix.

The answer is quite simple - go back to Silverstone. We all knew Donnington wouldn't work in the first place, why so surprised?

Berger not done with F1.
1 agrees.
The last line in your story was real shock. "Don''t worry," the infectious 49-year old smiled, "It is quite possible that I will be back some day." How long has Gerhard had this disease, what is this terrible malady and how easily can it be spread? A hand shake, a cough or something more intimate? The cure of course is to simply re-arrange the words so that they reflect a different scenario, I''m sure Gerhard will be very happy to learn that a cure is available and we can all breath a sigh of relief.
