MotoGP » MotoGP pay TV 'something we must face'

re: "Very bad move" fairplay, but I'm still waiting for you (or someone for the love o' God) to come up with an ALTERNATIVE move that DOESN'T involve giving away the store. just like open tyre competition, "giving away the store" is something they had already BEEN doing the past 20+ years, and now it no longer works. this isn't a case of let's fix something that isn't broken. if "free-to-air" still worked as fantastically as everybody likes to think...? HELLLOO...!!! MCFLY...!!! (Biff Tannen voice) they'd still be doing it. a greedy television exec who consciously chooses LESS revenue is another somebody I've never met.

re: "Pay-per view is a mistake. The sport doesn't exist by itself." correct it does not, but see I was telling you this long BEFORE pay per view came to fruition, but you didn't listen then either...? re: "It's there for the fans" but are the fans there for the sport...? ($64,000 quid question) re: "Only a tiny fraction of regular MotoGP fans aren't riders themselves." true statement. re: "there is also a considerable amount of people who watch it casually and perhaps not even (being) riders themselves" never met these people, nor do I KNOW anybody who's met these people.

re: "all i see is greed" tell me about it... greedy consumers. like looking through Hubble. somewhere in history, we've allowed ourselves to be BRAINWASHED into thinking the collective selfishness we display at the retail level...? is somehow magically different and less nefarious than the singular selfishness displayed by say...? a corporate exec sitting on high...? breaking news gentlemen, GREED IS GREED, and it's all damaging REGARDLESS of whether it's displayed at the top, or at the bottom. now if any this shocks you, it's only because these realizations AREN'T something your minds (particularly your defence mechanisms) would EVER allow you to conclude on your own. you WANT to keep doing what you're doing. you WANT to believe that behaviour is "consequence free". yup, you and my 16 year old.

re: "but I would much rather 5,000,000 watched free and made our sport even greater." somebody's not paying attention. you've missed the fundamental premise that there is no FREE...? there is only the shifting of costs so the burden is born by somebody whose name you don't know. re: "This is not an elitist sport, this is not Ballet, not Opera..." well you're right about one thing kid, this is BUSINESS. re: "we don't turn our nose up at people that can't afford it" I can see you are wrestling with multiple epiphanies today, that's gotta be tough. re: "it should be enjoyed by as many people as possible." I agree, now I need you to goggle search the term... "pie in the sky idealism".
