MotoGP » Ben Spies celebrates first MotoGP podium

This was buggin me so I went and dug this up. This was a Clarification issued by the FIM last July. To help clear up the situation, the Commission has given the following definitions of new rookie rider and a contracted rider A contracted rider is a rider who has participated in 9 or more events during 1 season. A Rookie is a rider nominated by a participating team for participation in the entire season, who hasn’t been a contracted rider as defined above in the same class in any previous season. I.e. a rookie only becomes a contracted rider after 9 races in the same season. but does that mean that a rookie rider at the start of next season can swap to a factory team after 9 rounds?

I didn't see any pro-Hayden or Spies comments on here until the anti-Hayden and Spies clowns barged in and started spewing. Back on topic... I agree that Pedrosa will likely get a huge holeshot and then be reeled in by Lorenzo and possibly a few others. Lorenzo was the only guy doing consistent 39's (10x) in the second session so his setup is looking pretty good! Regardless don't count Rossi out in that last hairpin! And yes Nicky is also looking like he might be in this one as well.Deal with it!

MotoGP » Rossi wins Qatar thriller, Stoner falls

In the debrief Rossi and Lorenzo both said they had major wheel-spin issues and that led to the reduced top speed and in Rossi's case the Fuel Consumption issue. Stoner admitted that he fell because he backed off. The GP 10 requires pretty precise front end loading apparently and he said that when he backed his pace down a little it didn't load the front and it just washed out. Nicky is saying much the same thing. The GP10 is better but still a very finicky bike to setup right. Anyone know what befell Batista at the end? Speed just showed the aftermath. Exhilarating race regardless.

It sounds like Stoner Blames himself for not charging. When he was pushing it loaded the front sufficiently and all was well. When he backed off a little the front got light on him and it just washed out. Nicky is sort of saying the same thing the Ducati is still a razor's edge setup wise. I suppose that's why they race! I am really looking forward to the rest of the season if today was any indication. I'll take 4 race leaders any day over the processionals of years past.

MotoGP » Qatar MotoGP - Race results

What a way to start the season! A true race fan cannot sidestep the fact that Stoner was in a league of his own... for a little while anyway. Tossing it away while leading the first race is not a good way to start the season. Rossi, ever present was there to capitalize. After that the racing was fast and Furious. I especially liked the Nicky Dovi battle. Sucked to lose third like that but Nicky has to be happy to be so competitive right from the onset. Great to see Ben riding to a solid fifth place and re-passing Pedrosa on the straight! Kallio was whining to the press that Spies ran him off the track, which I did not see. Lastly great to finally see Speed broadcasting MotoGP in HD!

Rossi will have to get in front of Stoner and control the pace to even keep this one close. Third place battle could be the place to watch though. There are about 7 guys running right around that same time so far. I just watched last years Losail WSBK race 1 today and Spies sat in about 5th place until late in the race and then just left them for dead. That seems to be his core competency, running fast on worn out tires. Going out on a limb I will say Stoner, Rossi, Lorenzo, Dovioso Spies for this one.
