F1 » Pirelli close to finalising 2016 testing plans

With the teams ask of two to three pitstops still in affect for the coming season along with the request for more performance, now is the time for Pirelli to abandon the unsafe and problematic old "2 compounds" formula and instead design tires for each circuit which will give outstanding lap times but only for less than half the race distance or even, depending on the circuit a third of race distance. This would make for safer racing, as the chassis would not be so compromised by needing to accommodate 2 different tires, and faster racing as they could focus on speed rather than distance. Build the tires so that the fast compound wears down to a hard super durable compound to protect the carcass from blow-outs and let's go racing!

F1 » Pirelli close to finalising 2016 testing plans

@1Jez - The design of tires for each circuit would in reality be far fewer than 20 compounds as a number of circuits with similar requirements would be using the same tires, much as they do now. Obviously a super hard rubber compound would be a lot slower than the race compound and would alert the driver that a pitstop was needed without putting the car in danger of a tire failure. Alternate strategies sounds good but almost all the time the race leaders use the same "strategy." Marketing hoopla created to get people talking about the tires when there is no competition between tire-makers. There were no dictated pitstops for tire in 2005 and it was a great season, personally I watch F1 to see great driving not great pitstops. Enjoyed your post, it showed some good thought.

F1 » FIA rules customer engines must be same specification

It seems to me that this regulation change will ensure that Red Bull doesn't get engines from Ferrari next year as Ferrari has already stated that they don't have the capacity to supply so many engines. And what nonsense it is for the teams to allow year old engines but not different versions of the homlogated engine! They what their cake while eating it.
