The FIA and teams are responsible for the lack of engine manufactures in F1 because of their strait-jacketing of the technical regulations which now dictates that the same basic engine is built by every manufacturer. They have hugely increased the cost of manufacturing engines while developing them has now become near impossible. All in the name of keeping team costs down and trying to guarantee that whoever builds your engine you will be competitive. That's not working out for them too well! Open the formula up so that manufacturers can bring in their own ideas and innovations and they will come back.

Nico's reticence suggested that the drivers were indeed asked not to voice criticism at Pirelli publicly. The drivers have over the past few years spoken publicly about Pirelli's performance and it seems to me that is because either Pirelli didn't want to talk privately with them or did and then nothing came of it. Pirelli must respect the driver's imput about the tires they have to compete on if they want those same drivers to not voice their frustrations publicly. Of course, the root cause of all these problems is the use of two different tires during the races, a marketing exercise run amuck, which has been one of the principle causes of the decline of F1 as a competition.

F1 » Horner speculates run-off confidence causing tyre cuts


The FIA's lacklustre enforcement of the rules concerning racing outside the bounds of the circuit is endangering drivers and track workers. Since it is no longer viable to use physical barriers (high curbs, no run-offs, walls etc.) to keep drivers on-track the dangers that used to instill discipline needs to be replaced by ENFORCED penalities for racing off-course. HRC has a good idea which would have the advantage of removing the stewards from the penalty assessment making it more fair to all. Otherwise the use of larger curbs which might cause shunts which would be absorbed by the large run-off areas might "encouage" the drivers to stay within the bounds of the racing surface.
