NASCAR » Old Chase, New Chase or No Chase?

A lot of the premises of this article are just plain wrong. I wouldn't say that this new format has increased the competition for the majority of teams and drivers cut from the rounds, would you? And the statement that the formatting of race series has always been an issue is so much blather. From the beginning of motorsports it's been winner take all and the rest are just ranked as been relatively less of a loser. It wasn't until television became the cash cow of racing that the gimmicks of "entertainment" reared their ugly heads and with the gradual eroding of fan interest in gimmicks the sponsors have thinned on the ground. This has made TV even more important, so the marketers chase viewers with even more gimmicks to supposedly attract the disinterested and we have the shambles of "The Chase." It reminds me of the spectacle of a dog "chasing" it's own tail, amusing for a few seconds and then just humiliating.

F1 » Mercedes set to make F1 engine freeze compromise

The fact that the FIA has conceded it's control over the making of the technical regulations is criminal. Any freeze on technical development is contrary to the spirit of Formula One. Toto's reasoning against Mercedes opening PU development because of increased costs is nonsense for the very argument he stated. Mercedes supplying twice as many teams as any competitor will allow Mercedes to spread development costs over a larger group of paying clients.
