MotoGP » Pedrosa backs 'fun' 990cc return.

FreQ - I don't know exactly why the engines were 990 rather than 1000cc, but I was told many years ago by an automotive engineer that the optimal capacity for a cylinder of a four stroke engine is 330cc. Perhaps the assumption was that three cylinder engines would be used. If the 990's were brought back, or even 1000 production based blocks with prototype bits and exotic materials, I don't think it would hurt WSB too much, as that series would still be based on road bikes, not prototype frames etc. MotoGP could even go to alcohol fuels which would effect power outputs too. Plenty of ideas out there, it just needs some imagination and courage from FIM and Dorna. What am I saying ?!

F1 » Button breached contract, says 'disappointed' Brawn

To assert that Jenson breached his contract by visiting McLaren is extremely picky. Perhaps visiting the factory is prohibited, but drivers talk to other teams constantly. It is a basic human right, to be able to talk to who you like, surely. How does any driver get a drive for another team ? He has to talk to the team he is thinking of joining and he can't wait 'til his contract is up. Every driver spends half of the year talking to other teams either directly or through their personal managers, to size them up and work out if a better deal is available. Ross and Fry are just mud slinging, knowing that some will stick, as Jenson's record of team hopping in the past isn't easily forgotten.

F1 » Senna: My goal is to be F1 World Champion

I'm afraid he will always be compared to his uncle, especially if he insists on reminding everyone about it, by hanging on to the name. It is a fact that Damon was constantly reminded and compared to Graham Hill, Jacques to Gilles Villeneuve, Nico to Keke Rosberg, Michael to Mario Andretti and soon Leo and Gregg will be to Nigel Mansell and so on. It is the nature of the world that sons follow fathers and uncles into their trade, and we will always say, hmm, not as good as his dad ....

F1 » Michael: Circuit design key to improving F1

We have to remember that the world of motor racing is not just F1. New circuits have to be designed with other formulae in mind too. What is good for F3 or touring cars doesn't work for F1 and vice versa. How many races a year are held at Sepang, Turkey, Shanghai other than the GP's ? These tracks must sit empty for 350 days a year, while Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Croft are used that many times. F1 has got too self important, and expects everyone and everything to change to suite it. If it was made to conform to 'proper' tracks then the racing would be better too. Abu Dhabi is a great facility, but they forgot about the motor racing. Who needs a kilometer long straight ? Pointless.

MotoGP » James Toseland says goodbye to MotoGP.

It my well be the case that Toseland is going back to series that will be the most competitive, entertaining and spectacular series in all of motorsport, certainly better than MotoGP and practically as fast. MotoGP is becoming the two wheeled version of F1. Tinkering with the regs by FIM, from 990 to 800, five engines for the whole of next the year ( I think ? ) etc, has ruined what was a great series. Clearly the blazer brigade have never heard the phrase 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
