F1 » Branson wanted Danica to be a Virgin in F1 2010

It can only be that there is some form of discrimination at work, because there is no other reason why females have not managed to work their way through and break into circuit racing to any great extent. The likes of Stoddart and Legge have had the chances but can't seem to match the speed of the guys. Michelle Mouton showed the the girls can be every bit as quick and fearless in a rally car. I think soon there will be a batch of girls coming through going by the number appearing in karts and Formula Ford. As has been mentioned, when there are diminutive F1 drivers like Hamilton or Heidfeld then there is no reason for the physicality argument to be used against them.

F1 » Mercedes hit by sponsorship blow

I thought that when you are a F1 team and trying to do a multi-million deal with a very large company, you'd meet board members, go to the company HQ, do presentations to executives, show the company chairman and MD around your facility, takes weeks wooing and persuading etc. I cannot see how a con-man can do all this to a supposedly switched on F1 team and have them believing it all, without someone who has been in the F1 game for more than 5 minutes thinking ' hang on - have you actually met anyone you've heard of yet ...'. It does seem fantastically naive of Brawn, so for Nick Fry to fall for this speaks volumes. I bet Mercedes are impressed at this comical amateurism by the team.

F1 » Mosley: I could have kept BMW, Toyota in F1

Why is anyone taking a blind bit of notice of what Mosley has to say ? He is just spouting any old nonsense that comes into his head in order to get some attention, which hes now realised he doesn't get anymore. If Crash would just not bother reporting what the old fart is saying it will notice his comments will get more and more ludicrous just to get someone to report them.

MotoGP » 'New era' for MotoGP as 1000cc returns in 2012

Stevio, you need to have some patience. The commission has said that today's announcement is setting out what its intention is for 2012 and that it will have further meetings to nail down the exact regulations. It is then that any decision will be made regarding the use of rider aids and electronic gizmos. As for why do we need to wait till 2012, we are in a recession in case you hadn't noticed. The manufacturers can do without needing to spend millions right now on more new engine designs.

F1 » New points system gets okay

Richard, why did you make the comment about the new system affecting the on track excitement ? No driver thinks 'I won't bother trying to overtake, it would only be worth a point'. Hamilton won the WDC by one point. The trouble with the old, old, system of only scoring to sixth is that I am old enough to remember when only 6 finishers was fairly routine. There are too many multi-million pound teams, sponsors and corporations involved now that won't accept going a whole season barely scoring a point. We have to live in the world we are in now, not 25 years ago. I'm also sure there will be some minor adjustments made by season start to iron out the lumps in the proposed score differentials.

F1 » Podium points incentive planned for 2010.

25 points for a win etc down to 1 for 10th is a good enough system. No need for points any further down the order. Point or two for pole would be ok but not necessary, but points for fastest lap, no thanks. That's too random, and smacks of drivers down in 12th or 13th popping in and out of the pits in the last few laps for fresh tyres and turning the process into a farce. I would also not want anyone scoring a point or two sat in the pits if there were only 8 finishers for example. I would say you'd have to be running at the end, and lapping at 120% of your fastest lap while no more than two laps adrift, to prevent hobbled cars limping around, to pick up a point or two.

F1 » Mercedes wanted Raikkonen in F1, reveals manager

Yes, BBC are reporting this consideration to a revised points system. I have always advocated awarding points to at least the top ten, and now that we will see 26 car grids again it makes sense to do it now. There should be points for pole too, but I have never been convinced about the merit of points for fastest lap as that is always reliant on chance and circumstance and can be completely random.

F1 » Lotus F1: Trulli a possibility, Villeneuve isn't

Lotus Group plc is owned by Proton. If you look up the company on the net, it uses the logo. So it is up to Proton to decide if the team can use 'its' logo and even the name, not anyone else, and presumably it would have stopped the team using either otherwise. If it is not Proton's logo or name to use at all, I'm sure the correct legal owners would have stopped Proton using it long before now. It may be that it is a bit misleading, and you may not like it, and I don't particularly myself, that is fair enough, but it is up to them. Who knows, the team may be a great success and add glory to the name. But then again ...

F1 » Bernie: Silverstone beat other places 'desperate' to stage F1

Lord Mandelson was asked by BBC radio why the British government would not put money into Silverstone when it is spending billions on the Olympics. He rightly said that Silverstone is a facility owned by a private club in a sport awash with money. And let's face it, to spend millions of tax payers cash in that way during a recession would not be very popular to say the least. Mandelson also confirmed that he had helped BrawnGP by putting pressure on Honda to sell the team to its management. By the way, I would have thought Bernie could afford a decent pair of specs.
