MotoGP » Casey Stoner: Why I'm leaving MotoGP

Stoner needs a challenge, not just from other riders but from the bikes themselves. I posted this about 4 months ago- "The number of world championships, race wins, poles or money means nothing to Stoner, he will leave the sport when A - Lorenzo or Pedrosa get hurt or leave and there are no other 'aliens' to race against B - If the bikes are 'dumbed down' to the point where they are comparatively easy to ride compared to the full prototypes." There also could be more going on than we know, Stoner is on the 'front line' in MotoGP and maybe Honda have told him what their plans are for the next year or two and they're not very appetizing (perhaps for example, with a looming 15,000 rpm rev limit they are considering using a much cheaper modified Fireblade engine) Whatever the reason, It is obvious from this announcement that the era of "knife edge" open class pure race bikes is about to end and the era of cheap-and-easy-to-ride-at-the-limit MotoGP bikes is about to begin...depressing

MotoGP » Stoner tames chatter for MotoGP calendar sweep

@ Lanski Good comment, up until MotoGP Stoner never rode a factory bike and although the GP7 was fast, it handled like a shopping trolley. I watched him ride it at Phillip Island and it looked like he was wrestling a bag of cats. It must've been a shocker....when asked last year about the problems Rossi was having with the carbon fibre frame, Stoner said "If they think that's bad they should've ridden the old trellis frame bike"

MotoGP » MotoGP gets physical with 1000cc

@1motion Totally agree, I used to get arm pump and carpel tunnel issues from the hand grips(of all things) I was getting numb hands during a race from vibration through the bars so I fitted nice spongy foam handgrips. My moment of genius seemed to blind me to the fact that no one else had done this. Next race- chronic arm pump, It got to the point where I couldn't undo my fingers off the throttle to grab the front brake, very f*cking frightening. The problem was having to squeeze "through" the foam to feel the bars ...and you kind of don't notice that you are doing it. Another thing that causes it is racing a bike that HAS to have a steering damper, without one (you are subconsciously over gripping the bars waiting for a tank slapper)

MotoGP » Bridgestone to introduce new MotoGP front tyre

If the new front tyre is the one that Stoner rejected (do we actually know this for sure?) then it will be interesting to watch and listen to the riders reactions as the season progresses. During testing Stoner said "other riders will find the tyre moves to much under brakes when they start racing on it, most riders push a little harder in a race than testing".

MotoGP » Barbera top Ducati, Rossi aims for second row

The reason why riders(and drivers)chuck a wobbly when someone is drafting them in QUALIFYING is the lead bike gets slowed down by the following bike. In a race situation it is not as relevant because the bikes are fighting for position not lap time. Also the drafting is usually a lead up to an attempted pass which breaks the 'tow' earlier than simply following someone up the entire length of the straight.
