F1 » FIA formalises ban on helmet design changes

Seakay: I must be in a minority of one here as I actually think it's an excellent idea. A drivers helmet has traditionally been something of his identity, something they carried with themselves throughout their career regardless of which team they drove for. I like that. Maybe it's not so important for spectators in TV land because they're told every second who's where in the field but to those sat trackside the helmet provides instant recognition as to which driver they're looking at.
If you're trackside at a race you have commentary, big screen tv's and mobile phone applications that display where the driver is on the circuit in real time. If none of that can't help you identify who's going past you then a helmet design isn't going to be of any use either.

F1 » Arrivabene calls out Ecclestone over fan engagement

Yes Yes Yes Leave Me Alone: I think F1's fan engagement is fine...
You clearly don't remember headlines like this from a few months ago then - "Bernie Ecclestone claims F1 does not need young fans " that featured statements like " there is “no point” trying to reach teenagers because they could not afford anything the sport is promoting". I don't recall the FA or the Premier League ever saying things like this.

Seakay: I just don't get why the drivers all want to express themselves and make statements through their helmet - or frankly why they're getting so much support for wanting to indulge themselves. Just get out there and race.
Then you don't understand what it is to race. It's more than going fast. There's risk, thrill, financial struggle, passion for fans teams and fellow competitors, endless sacrifices, hard work and dedication. The helmet, especially in F1, is the only source of freedom to express yourself, but you want to see that curbed by only allowing one design per driver? Would you tell an artist to stop after one painting?

Seakay: As for the helmet design being 'the only source of freedom to express yourself' and comparing the drivers to artists, the word melodramatic comes to mind.
What's the difference between painting on a canvas to express yourself and painting on a helmet? Zero. I think the only melodramatic person here is you, this isn't an issue that needed resolving.
