RDix: This is solely about money and nothing more. He's paying for this seat and that's why he's getting it. He won't be there next year unless he's ponying up a lot more money than he paid for his previous motogp ride, don't worry.
...or unless out of nowhere he pulls some really great races and starts beating Espargaro. Can't see that happening in about a million years really but still, come on. He's hardly as useless as some people here seem to believe. He certainly doesn't deserve to be mocked by any standard.

The way I read this, it doesn't even tell who's paying. Supposedly, Santander are the ones paying most of Alonso's wages. And something similar could just as well be true for Kimi. And because of all the various sponsorships, royalties, winnings etc there's no simple way of telling who gets what as payment for their driving. For example, Maldonado has three million according to this, but do you honestly think having him on board sets Lotus back three millions? Sure, he might have a contract that says Lotus pay him three mil a year for driving their car but only because PDVSA has a contract that says they pay Lotus thirty for sponsorship - provided Maldonado is their driver. So in a way his paycheck is most certainly negative, at least from his team's point of view. Same goes for quite a few others and is realistically at least partly true for almost all of the drivers. That's why I think these figures are completely irrelevant. Total earnings for a whole year would be more interestin

How exactly has this ruined the track? The track itself is completely unaltered as I understand it. And no you will not get an advantage from going off track, you will lose time - but granted, it will not be an instant DNF if you overshoot it here. Pretty sure drivers will still try their best not to run wide. And if I'm not mistaken there's a patch of sand/gravel between the track and runoff too, so running over that will actually mean you risk car damage. DON'T WORRY people it's still one of the most dangerous tracks on the calendar! Hope that calms you down. So anyway, what this does mean though is that cars flipping and/or bouncing on the gravel will not happen. Boo hoo.

Ricciardo clear number one for me. Bottas has been very good too, as have Hamilton, Alonso and Rosberg. I'm surprised to see so few votes on Rosberg actually, fan bias of course but I think he's exceeded expectations in many ways. He's leading mostly through consistency obviously and that'll seldom impress people as much as raw pace, but I have to say I'm impressed with how closely matched he's been to Hamilton on single lap pace too.

Sorry but isn't this a lot of speculation? What exactly are these figures anyway, and where do they come from? Is it just what the teams are paying them, or does it include personal sponsorship, royalties, contract clauses etc etc... There will be a lot of variation as to how sponsor-team-driver arrangements are made and without any info on that, these figures are pretty meaningless TBH.

F1 » Rosberg: ‘Intense’ Hamilton battle will continue


They've actually been very close both in terms of quali pace and race pace. I have to say to me they have been surprisingly close - I expected Hamilton to be more ahead on raw pace, especially in quali. Rosberg meanwhile has always had good racecraft and been less prone to make mistakes but Hamilton hasn't been far behind so far this season, as proven by his excellent recovery drives. Expected a bigger difference there too. All in all they've actually both exceeded my expectations, Rosberg for finding the speed to challenge Hamilton even in quali and Hamilton for composed and mature race performances. Just wish he could be composed and mature when he opens his mouth too...
