F1 » F1 2014 driver salaries published – but who earns most?

The way I read this, it doesn't even tell who's paying. Supposedly, Santander are the ones paying most of Alonso's wages. And something similar could just as well be true for Kimi. And because of all the various sponsorships, royalties, winnings etc there's no simple way of telling who gets what as payment for their driving. For example, Maldonado has three million according to this, but do you honestly think having him on board sets Lotus back three millions? Sure, he might have a contract that says Lotus pay him three mil a year for driving their car but only because PDVSA has a contract that says they pay Lotus thirty for sponsorship - provided Maldonado is their driver. So in a way his paycheck is most certainly negative, at least from his team's point of view. Same goes for quite a few others and is realistically at least partly true for almost all of the drivers. That's why I think these figures are completely irrelevant. Total earnings for a whole year would be more interestin

F1 » F1 driver of the year so far….. revealed

Annoying statements aside, Hamilton has had some truly fantastic drives and really shown his intent on track in the championship battle. He's definitely been one of the best, like him or not. Personally I don't. But to me, the most impressive has easily been Ricciardo. I remember discussing this before the season, that I thought Dan had the right attitude to get in there and challenge Vettel in the long term - but I never expected him in a million years to have the upper hand from the get go. And by quite the margin, too. And sure, it's probably true that Vettel has had a hard time adapting to the new gen cars, but he's had 11 races to get there now and Dan is still faster. And Vettel is a 4-time champ, the darling of the team and the management. What Dan has achieved this year really is huge.

F1 » In memory of... 1984

Fun facts for people who remember past seasons with rose tinted glasses! Despite the similarities between these seasons, and despite the fact that the field was bigger in 1984, here's some interesting figures for you: - The average victory margin in 1984 was about 23,5 seconds - The average number of cars finishing on the lead lap was about 3,5 Since then of course, as you all know F1 has become known for its incredibly boring, procession-like races, as shown by these numbers: - The average victory margin in 2014 was about 12,5 seconds - The average number of cars finishing on the lead lap was about 9,5 ...oh wait.

F1 » Bianchi not expecting Ferrari call-up

Would love to see Bianchi get a seat at Sauber next year, I think that would be perfect for him and for them aswell. He could replace either of their current drivers to be honest. If I was Sauber though I'd probably show Sutil the door, simply because he'll have reached his full potential and also because of the money of course. Gutierrez is just as good (bad?), brings more money to the table and may still have a little bit of untapped potential in him. Oh and yeah, unlike Sutil he seems like a pretty nice guy too.

F1 » F1 driver of the year so far….. revealed

Facts? Where are those facts? All I can see is opinions. And sure, Vettel has had some issues. But even when he hasn't, Ricciardo has been in front of him more often than not. Is that not a fact? Quite a bit in front, too. I agree that saying Vettel has been rubbish and things like that is taking it one step too far, I still think he's one of the best drivers out there, but given that Ricciardo is doing his first season with the team and Vettel now has had 11 race weekends to get on top of this year's cars I just cannot take anyone saying Vettel is faster than Ricciardo seriously.
