This is an example of relying on spotters to race. NASCAR Cup cars now need spotters as the drivers can barely turn their heads and have little outward visibility. Indy cars have plenty of visibility, especially with those huge mirrors. Marco was relying on Mario's spotter to tell Mario he was there and give room. If Marco had been fully alongside at the apex of turn 1 he could have been expected to be given room. He barely had a run and only got halfway before the EXIT and should have expected Mario to use the exit. Marco put himself in a spot from which he had no exit and put himself and Mario out of the race. A smart driver would not have put himself there with or without a spotte
