F1 » Ericsson terminates Caterham F1 contract

107SS2009: The following is further reading for those interested re the rights of both Marusia and Caterham versus their F1 position and rights. A team can miss 3 GP’S without losing its right on the grid, which means that if Marusia and Caterham paid their entry fee for 2015, they have a grid slot up to the Chinese GP in April 2015. Caterham entry belongs to 1 Malaysia racing SDN BHD (registered in Malaysia). Marusia entry belongs (subject to confirmation) Manor Grand Prix racing LTD. These entries will stay where they are registered regardless of the buyer if they are sold. If the company (registered) dies then the entry dies. It cannot be parted from the company number regardless of the change of name. The entry will also die if the team is insolvent and all insolvency paperwork is done.
Interesting. Thanks.

F1 » McLaren-Honda F1 car to run on Friday

HRC:
The V8 wasn't rubbish, the chassis it was sat it most certainly was, Super Aguri prooving the point. Yes it had it's problems and was not helped by the 2 yr engine freeze and Honda stubbornly using its own electronics hence Buttons comments about power delivery. As I recall he Honda V8 was lower revving being a longer stroke motor but gave as much HP as the other V8s on the grid.
Well maybe rubbish was a bit strong but I doubt even with the double diffuser they'd have had as much success as they did with the Merc unit in the back. Don't get me wrong, I had a VFR400 and XR250 and both had great engine's, I'm not dissing Honda engines although I don't like the way they throw money at MotoGP...much like Merc in F1 at the moment.

HRC: I'll be mighty surprised if the Honda PU is not capable of matching or even beating the Merc PU even at this early stage, one thing Honda are historically good at is making racing PU's with a surplus of HP and reliable ones too.
Not always. The V8 engine was rubbish, it's power delivery was described as been an on-off switch by Jenson & Rubens.

Taipan: On a slightly more serious note, If one of the classic McLaren's is the MP4/5 the comparisons are quite interesting or should that be worrying? The MP4/5 3.5l V10 is now 25 years old, Prost's fastest lap at Monza that year averaged 236.985 kmph the fastest lap this year averaged 236.976kmph, yes this year was fractionally slower than 25 years ago. All that money and technology invested over 25 years so that we can go a little bit slower.
Seriously? That's progress for you  Considering how flimsy the cars were back then, even more kudos to the drivers doing it back then.

I hope someone can break Merc's strangle hold on F1 but Honda seem to be in the group of wanting a relaxation of the development freeze, might just be common sence to adopt that approach but perhaps it means they've made the same mistakes as Renault and Ferrari. I hope not. F1 is on a shaky peg and doesn't need another season like this one.
