I agree in what you say. In it's purist form.It just doesn't apply to F1 or motorsports in general. One upping the competitions is the goal. It's an interpetation of the rule book that makes it appear that someone is outside of any rule. Each teams idea of the rule is always going to be slightly different. That doesn't mean they are cheating. In fact it's looked upon as being that much smarter than the rest. There are always loopholes and its the teams job to find them. When each new formula is announced the teams look to the gray areas first.

It has always been acceptable to push the gray areas of the rule book. F1 has NEVER had a season where the rules were not bent. It's part of the game. That goes for any racing series on the planet.
