WSBK » Toseland will be happy – and fast – in WSBK

Hookem, I don't agree and I doubt Yamaha would pull the plug early. Nobody doubts JT's talent, but if history repeats itself, James will start the season slow and get more and more competitive as things progress--probably whipping a few victories. While I'm not sure he'll be in contention 2010 title (but he could be), I have absolutely no doubts he be up for it in 2011. In other words, 'IF' he struggles a bit this season, he'll show enough to Yamaha that he's the real deal. So like I said... If not this year, than next.

Hookem, Your words we're: "I cannot see Yamaha keeping James around if he does not challenge for the WSBK Superbike Championship for 2010." But in your last comment you said that he would have to finish top 5. So which is it? It's possible to finish top 5 and not be in contention for the title. Johnny Rea had a very slow start to the season then turned it up the second half and finished 5th without ever being close to the title. **This is what I was saying "COULD" happen (not that it definitely will)--a slow start but strong finish. If that happens, there's no way Yamaha would let him go. History has shown he'll work it out. Except.. obviously, if he finishes outside the top 10, well, no dispute there. James won't sniff another factory seat for as long as he lives.

WSBK » Crash.net's Top 10 WSBK Riders - 4th

Rea's problem the entire season was consistancy. No doubt, he made huge strides with the switch to ohlins but he was STILL inconsistent. He's got the talent so it's all up to him in 2010. If he can reduce the mistakes while riding on the limit he'll be right there fighting for the championship. Easier said than done, though. We'll just have to wait and see.
