Let me get this straight. A man paints his face black and points at a steering wheel and this is viewed as a HEINOUS act? Seriously? Have we become maybe just a bit too sensitive?

Has the man called for violence against any of the racers? Has the crowd called for violence? Not as far as I am aware.

Suppose a fan shaves his head and makes fun of Rubens Barichello's baldness. Would that be HEINOUS too? Or would that just be one fan with bad taste? What if someone put on a big nose and made fun of Kubica?

Is it only skin color that we must pretend not to notice?

This is surreal.

Please, no personal attacks. I just don't understand the reaction here.

Hannah on SpeedTV they showed a graphic - Vettel has out-qualified Webber 13-1 this season. or was it 12-1? something-to-1. Pretty decisive. I think Webber and DC split their qualifying last season about 50/50.

What a mess of a qualifying session. Nice job by Vettel to grab pole. I've been waiting for RBR to have a big weekend for a long time. About Buemi's crash in Q2 - what's the rule about finishing the session under yellow? Do the times all count? Do the drivers have to lift or slow down? Alonso lifted and got knocked out by Barichello and Button, who posted their times after the yellow, and raced through the debris. And what happened to Raikonnen in Q3? It looked like he had time for 4 laps, but ran only one that I saw. It was good for P1 or P2 but he dropped to P8 pretty quickly. Fisichella is a big disappointment once again.

The track is ugly and the passing is impossible. The TV guys talk about the spectacular backdrop but the circuit itself is terrible. In addition to zero passing on the track, qualifying was aborted. This was the most uninteresting race weekend in a long long time. A good drive by Hamilton, Bravo to Glock for a clean, complete race weekend. Alonso lost 2nd place on the 1st lap after dusting up his tires during the off-line excursion in his tangle with Webber.

Interesting that all the other teams have seemd to improve in fits and starts, while Brawn have more or less fallen back. McLaren had a turn about in the space of 2 or three races - some big changes and big improvements. Ferrari - same thing. Even BMW made a step jump in competitiveness. All the while, Brawn still just plodding along. Where is there improvement? Are they starved for R&D cash?

Would have been good to see they try. In any case with the grid sort of jumbled up it should make for an interesting opening 10 laps.

f1fansite says 3.15miles per lap, 192m total. Let me ask something - the commentators on the US's SpeedTV coverage were saying that the pit "bogey" was something like 26s at Monza. They commented that with an average lap speed of 150mph, that bogey is pretty significant. They drew special attention the high speed on the long front straight, which was... I don't know, parallel I guess, to the place the cars would stop during pit stops. It seems to me that the average speed does not matter and the speed on the front straight does not matter. The only thing that matters is the bogey - the time cost of stopping. This assumes full amortization of slowdown and speedup. Make sense?

I agree. There's no basis to second-guess the red flag, but it is disappointing to the fans who like the Quali competition. On a related note. The Singapore track is the worst. What a contrast to the the flowing lines of Monza and the curves and elevation changes through the forests at Spa. Singapore's washboard surface, the high walls... it's a poor substitute for racing. Racing under the lights makes for quite a spectacle, but the track is no good.

richard, a red flag is circuit wide. instantly, all across the circuit. a yellow flag can be local or "full-course", but a red is always full-course, which is why you never hear the term "full course red".

Hannah - exactly right. And who can disagree with that point, seeing the results Kovi has delivered. Close but not quite excellent, at this level.
