MotoGP » PICS: Rossi, Marquez final turn Assen showdown

SendingOutOfSpace: what can we learn from the pictures here, that even though mm used rossi to go in to the corner he still couldnt make it and ended on the curb on the other side of the corner. so he came in way way to hot with the intention to let rossi crash.
Great point. Hadn't thought of that. I can imagine MM's dismay at seeing VR successfully navigate the gravel at speed,

MotoGP » Crutchlow hoping for Assen boost

Cal's on the bubble here. He really needs to get a decent result. But every time I see him on the Dorna feed, he looks to be about to crash. He's really ragged. His results in WSBK were spotty and there was surprise when he went to MotoGP but Tech 3 seems to want Brits. I expect he will slip down the field probably taking Nicky's bike next year as Nick has run out his string it looks.

MotoGP » MotoGP Assen - Race Results

aeolus: Rossie cut the course. He should have been awarded 2nd place.
Marquez cut the chicane too. you could say he cut the chicane less, but you either stay on track or don't stay on track. because both cut the track, the "crime" is the same.
If you check out the various replays on you will see that MM just barely left the course and VR gained abut 10 bike lengths MM's team should protest.

F1 » Williams urges more fan research to develop F1

SkidCarrera: I read the headline and thought it meant Williams were researching fan-cars as a way to get more downforce.
I thought it referenced use of a fan to supply down force as per Jim Hall's CanAm 2j "sucker" car. I saw it in action at Watkins Glen with Jackie Stewart at the wheel. Jackie blasted off and left Bruce and Denny in the dust. It was amazing. Unfortunately it didn't last long as the Lexan skirts failed.

F1 » Williams urges more fan research to develop F1

I was lucky enough to see GP at Watkins Glen before Armco was installed (and after) when the cars were all propelled by Ford engines that were 1 1/2 liter I believe. and it was a terrific spectacle to see the cars relatively closely in what was nothing more than an asphalt strip winding through the trees. There is no way F-1 can ever bring that sense of participation back. The cars were tiny things without wings and the driver was clearly visible. I wonder if the demise of the traditional European tracks and the increase in slot car tracks in widely different time zones can be correlated with the decline in spectator interest. I suspect there might be something to that. Ferrari has made at least an attempt to offer a change that might revive interest. But safety concerns have resulted in insulation from what has always been the drawing card for moto racing: fear. A visceral primal reaction to danger.
