MotoGP » Spies: It wasn't worth taking any risks

"...wasn't worth taking risks" Ben has taken that this attitude far to far. Remember in his rookie year at Philip Island? He wouldn't leave the garage because it was too windy. But everyone else did. That foreshadowed his MotoGP career which has seen him decline to push to the extent his team mate did. He is never going to achieve anything in this series and next year will be an even greater embarrisment

MotoGP » Brakes blamed for Ben Spies Motegi exit

...nothing was wrong. That's a pretty damning statement because it means Ben lost his nerve for want of a more clinical explanation. He was scared his brakes would fail and didn't take the corner. Sad to see this but what else could it be but psychological. But Dovi was slowed by brake issues as well so maybe Ben didn't want to slowdown in another incidence of good start and then slipping back and pressed too hard.

MotoGP » Third time lucky for Ben Spies at Motegi?

Ben needs perfect track conditions (all dry or wet--no in between)and a high degree of confidence in the front which he didn't have at Aragon as he started the race on a front tire he was unfamiliar with and played it safe. No need for risk taking being #10 on points. The forecast for Motegi is perfect weather. So maybe he can do something but I wouldn't bet a dime on it.

MotoGP » Spies no answer to satellite Yamaha duo

Yes, it does seem like everything is going swell until the lights go out. And then...something seems not quite right and Ben loses ground. It happens so often I have to agree with you that he has some king of mental block that kicks in. Maybe being on the Duck Jr. team will ease the pressure and result in races that he can at least say he got everything he could from the bike. But his strong fear of flying which he had to overcome in stages suggests he has a strong survival instinct that hinders him when he meets situation that are not subject to his tricky race track conditions. He admitted that the crashes in QP dampened his drive for the front row. I don't think he is going to conquere this psychological reality.
