MotoGP » Ducati 'must improve' for Rossi to be Rossi

this is all a ploy...VR, JB and the boyz took the M1 from dog-status to darling of the GP paddock...they know how to keep things simple and develop a contender... first and foremost, they were gathering data, and you dont get good feedback by going crazy fast on a bike where you're not familiar with it's character...instead they gathered quality data. second, VR isnt unfamiliar with gamesmanship with the competition... putting down a fast time would have been silly...instead putting down some slow times and languishing at the back, his competition will be overconfident and perhaps invest less energy and effort to develop in the offseason. lastly, it's a form of internal gamesmanship... putting down poor times gives JB the leverage to ensure that ducati invest as much as possible to develop and and stay 100% focused to compete with honda's deep pockets and the fine M1 they've already created.
