F1 » Smedley praises ‘monumental’ Vettel

Yeah weird comment considering the tiny difference between Vet-Bot-Mas-Ric. Kind of a shame it's not Massa in P3 though, cause he's had some lightning starts again this year. From P3 there would have been a good chance he'd have overtaken 1 or even both of the Mercs in the first sequence of corners (yes it's a short run but going into turn one you can still pass on the inside or outside). Now the Mercs will probably be off again from the get go, for better and for worse.

F1 » Canadian Grand Prix - Qualifying results

beetljuice23: Once again fantastic qualys from Vergne...
I definitely noticed and also picked him once again on a little head-to-head bet vs Kvyat in the race (jinx). He's actually getting worse odds on bet sites as well...even for this race where he comfortably beat Ricciardo last year and got a 6th place. Just amazing what media hype can do sometimes, for better and for worse. When a new young guy comes in and doesn't get completely thrashed by a more experienced teammate he's immediately hyped like crazy. I mean what is the expectation level...you cannot run circles around another decent driver in the same car on the account of some experience. First let's wait and see if he can actually BEAT Vergne over a whole year cause at the moment he's still usually a bit slower. Ah well...

F1 » Sutil hopes Magnussen learns from incident

The Sauber is pretty terrible this year isn't it...And then one driver who is overweight and one who is out of his depth in F1 doesn't help either. Kinda sad for Peter Sauber, team deserves much better (although maybe in the past they shoud have taken a bit more risk and not have been so happy to be the Ferrari B-team for a good amount of years there, they might have been able to make the final step to being a race winning team).

F1 » Bianchi targets Sauber as Marussia moves on to Montreal

Well for now they are still clearly slower than Sauber, but that said Sauber can't be running on a much bigger budget than Marussia right now so if it remains that way it should be a matter of time before they catch up to them. Coin may not necessarily buy success in F1 (ask Toyota) but you definitely can't be succesful without it these days.

F1 » Six of the Best: Inglorious Comebacks

Some good bad comebacks here. I also think Jacques Villeneuve's short run at Renault in 2004 would have qualified if it weren't for the fact that however poor his results were in those races it helped him to a Sauber drive which because it was a 2 year deal then turned in to a BMW drive and he actually wasn't that bad there despite the fact that he ultimately got replaced with Kubica. Also Kovalainen last year at Lotus was pretty bad. Fernandes even suggested it may have cost him a drive at Caterham this year. But I understand this is a touchy subject for crash as I was briefly exiled for predicting exactly what eventually happened with Kova.

F1 » Hamilton: My hunger is different to Rosberg’s

He needs to stop this incessant hunger 'to be perceived as' a great driver or rather the new Senna. It's ok to aspire to actually be a great driver but the public will in the end (despite the h8ers and fanb0iZ) judge one by results and conduct. Nothing is to be gained by talking about that you want people to look at you in a favourable way, nor should it bother you THAT much, much less let it define you. There's some weird psychological stuff going on there.

F1 » Hamilton: My hunger is different to Rosberg’s

Wasn't his father a manager of some sort making a good 6 figures a year? Maybe his family wasn't as rich as some of these other drivers' families, many of whom come from serious family fortunes, but there are no kids from the favelas in F1...To be able to afford your kids to go karting at a competitive level you need to make some decent coin. The chip on his shoulder probably comes from something else. Perhaps the constant hate he gets since forever, but either way he's not making it easier on himself with comments like these.

F1 » Alonso fastest in disjointed FP2

Vergne was again pretty good out there. It's a bit strange how he's always quite fast around some tracks especially if there is low grip or changeable conditions but apparently can't translate into being as quick at the bread-and-butter tracks in sunny conditions. I wonder how his carreer will work out, could be the new Button if he got the chances but the hype machine is already behind Kvyat (even on bwin you got a bigger payoff on Vergne compared to Kvyat, which IMO was rediculous at this track in particular but hey...). It's clear that he can't really thump Kvyat all year like the team probably expected of him so actually I think he'll follow Buemi, Algy, Liuzzi, Speed and Bourdais out of F1 at the end of this year or the next...

F1 » Maldonado shrugs off sponsorship rumours

I think Pastor really has no clue whether or not the tap is about to be closed. Still, judging by Williams' financial report at least they got all their money so it'd be another tough break for Lotus if it falls through now. Remember how early last year they were genuinely close to signing Honeywell as a title sponsor...Feel's like ages ago. Just one more example to show what a fickle business F1 is, one decision that falls your way and you're golden, one decision the other way and you're signing Pastor Maldonado pinning the team's future hopes on crooked Venezuelan politicians coming through with the money.
