F1 » Perez looking for improvement despite best result

It's interesting, just when you think Hulkenberg has definitely got the upper hand with this B spec car Perez comes alive again and puts in a performance like this. I just checked the standings and he's now actually a point ahead of Hulk. Sadly I think it's not doing either of them any favours that they are closely matched like this...Especially at a midfield team you only really look good if you're beating your teammate let's say something lke 75% of the times or more. I think they're both good drivers, but coupled together more than anything they're highlighting each other's weaknesses (Hulk is a very consistent point scorer but lacks the standout results a bit, while Perez does have the occassional 'flash of brilliance' but lacks a bit of consistency). Still would like to see both get a better drive, with all due respect to FI.

F1 » Perez 'very close' to joining Ferrari for 2014

I think it's probably true, however, it doesn't mean much now that the oppertunity has passed. Obviously he had links with Ferrari and he was doing well with Sauber so the story kind of makes sense. I still think also that McLaren treated him unfairly in and after 2013. Yes he scored less points than Jenson but he did manage to outqualify him (albeit just). The car was bad and the next year showed that Ron's golden boy of the day Magnussen did a worse job (bigger points deficit to Jenson, lost the qualy duel). Furthermore Carlos probably had to pay for the privilege of having his protege sacked at the end of the year while almost no time remained to find another seat. Ok so Whitmarsh at least helped them out a bit in terms of putting a good word in at FI.... The problem now is that at the moment Hulk seems to have his number. He needs to find a way to turn that around again. Then maybe, with the right backing and team choices (maybe Haas), another oppertunity will come.

F1 » Verstappen never ‘under pressure’ from F1 sceptics

Dutch69Camaro: Ah ok so the various assault charges were ficticious. If thats the case I retract my earlier statement.
Eventhough I'm (also?) Dutch I'm not Jos' biggest fan but actually of the two assault case against him one was dismissed in court and in the other case yes he did hit someone on the head who suffered a bone fracture as a result which is not excuseable which is why he got a conviction, however a bit of context is necessary: The incident as I understand it happened when Max, then still a small kid was driving around on a karting track when some other grown up dudes decided apparently it was their turn and for some reason thought Max should go off the track. They didn't ask for this but instead stopped little Max and started yanking his kart to get him off track by force. Jos saw this happening and proceeded to hit one of these guys on the head. In another country it might well have been ruled self defence.

F1 » Alonso lauds ‘beautifully balanced’ McLaren

I'm not sure if it's a good thing when Alonso or Button thinks a car has a great balance. It sounds weird cause both these drivers' biggest strength is aguably getting the upmost out of a not so great car, rather than taking a winning car and driving it that last 1 tenth faster than the others like say Hamilton and to a lesser extent Raikkonen, however...both have had teams completely design the car around them and most of those cars have not been great. Jenson obviously was number one at BAR and later Honda but as the years went on the car only got worse and worse till a clever designer came up with the double diffuser. Even that year, the car wasn't developed very well, cause in the end RBR and even at times McLaren, Ferrari and the odd other car was faster. Alonso same thing except in his case it was the mass damper thingy in the Ren-0. Years at Ferrari and Massa and Raikkonen couldn't do F all with the cars that resulted...

F1 » Verstappen, Sainz ‘can win’ in F1

Diesel26: Verstappen is future champion. Without a doubt, if he gets the right seat.
You really went out on a limb there didn't you :D What is crazy to think is that if he wants and nothing bad happens he has some 20 years ahead of him in F1. If he'll go the Barichello route and stays around till they kick him out even more than 20 years. At that rate I'll be a freakin 50 year old when his F1 carreer is over.

F1 » 'Gutted' Rosberg left deflated by missed opportunity

Completely agree with those above saying Rosberg was way too focussed on beating Hamilton today while he should have just gone and won the race...The worst part was when he was on the radio with his team who informed him Lewis was behind and would pit sooner and go to the harder tyres and he demanded he'd have the hard tyres too then. For a driver supposedly trying to get an edge by thinking things through he completely lost the plot there and a clearer indication that he was just looking at one man today couldn't be given. Utimately the team now says it was at that point their call to put Rosberg on the harder tyre and had it been one lap later they would have put him on softs but I'm not having it, Nico requested those tyres and they threw their strategy completely overboard to cover off Lewis. And then you see people flying on the softs at the end and he clashes with Ric. For the championship I'd have liked to see him take the points but he kinda got what he deserved today.

F1 » Raikkonen: That’s luck, that’s racing

HairyLuthier: I don't understand why they brought him in. When Raikkonen's MGU-H failed he was losing 4 tenths a lap. If he had stayed out he would have still got a points finish.
That's what I thought as well. everyone behind Verstappen was miles away cause they were lapped before the SC phase. They could have got 5th at least. Only thing I can imagine is maybe there would have been a penalty for Spa if they'd finished the race now and had to change the parts for Spa? A couple years ago retiring the car was a way to get around a penalty for the next race but I'm not actually sure if it still works that way to some extent. It's weird cause 1st there was the (IMO right) radio message to Kimi that the car would be slow but would keep running like it was but then Kimi started yelling on the radio about being a sitting duck and they brought him in. Maybe he wasn't aware that the pack was so far behind...Seemed to me like a mistake.
