MotoGP » Updated 2014 MotoGP rider contracts

@TalentFan A hint towards the Smith/Pol E situation next year might be found in the Edwards/Spies line up at Tech 3 a few years back. When a few improvements finally filtered down from the factory towards the end of the season, they went to Ben rather than Colin (since confirmed by Edwards in an interview for Cycle World), as it was BS who had the factory contract. Mind you, I'd be surprised if either Tech 3 rider will be running the seamless shift next year, which will mean a greater disadvantage to the factory squad than this year.

WSBK » Guintoli: I’m happy… that it’s over!

Sylvain is doing a great job of damage limitation while riding with the after effects of that dislocated collar bone. It's consistency that wins championships, and unlike one or two of his competitors who flash hot and cold, he's always in the mix and racking up the points. Smart rider. Would like to see him challenge for wins again though when the injury has healed.

MotoGP » Official: Cal Crutchlow to Ducati MotoGP team

@ DrGP It's worth remembering that Audi only took control a year ago. They've already swept out the old guard and brought in new staff, but there just hasn't been the time yet to implement radical changes. The sealed engine rules don't permit any significant changes to the motor during the season, and testing opportunities are limited. Next year the bike will be all new, and we'll see at last the results of all the testing and development made under Audi's control. My guess is that we're going to see a bike that's very much closer to the competition than it has been this year. Perhaps not an immediate race winner but a significant leap forward, with much improved potential for improvement.

MotoGP » Official: Cal Crutchlow to Ducati MotoGP team

@ Roundiniho Scott R. to Gresini on the production Honda for 2014 is being widely reported as pretty much a done deal. Supposedly with an agreement for him to receive a factory-supported RCV in 2015 (Bautista's ride, no doubt). Michael Bartholemy, team manager of Marc VDS, is also Redding's personal manager, so he'll be negotiating with a view to securing the best future prospects for Scott. And that means going with HRC.

There is the will and the effort and the money to turn things around in Ducati. The only question is the length of time it's going to take. If it happens within the next 2 years, then it'll have been a very shrewd move by Cal. If not, then no one will blame the riders and he'll have secured his future financially. Either way, it was the only option on the table that even offered a chance at career progression.
