MotoGP » Bradley Smith - Q&A

@ JP As usual, politics and finance have much to do with it. Smith was signed towards the end of 2011, when he'd had a relatively good year on the Tech 3 Moto 2 bike and showed he could adapt well to another class. At the same time, Cal Crutchlow was having a fairly awful time and looked like he might exit the team at the close of 2012, depriving the team of their much needed Dorna subsidy for running a UK rider. So Smith was a logical choice for a replacement. That Cal stepped up his game so dramatically in 2012 was perhaps a development that made Smith's signing look - in retrospect - a little hasty. The fact that #38 has personal sponsorship from Monster Energy (who fund the MotoGP team) and that his management team WMG have strong ties to Monster also figure strongly in the signing. It's not hard to join the dots once you glean something of the managerial/sponsorship situation.

MotoGP » Moto2: Redding concludes final test of season

Competitve Kalex-KTM machinery and combined rider-weight limit for 2013 - now is the time for Redding to deliver. We've been hearing how his weight has disadvantaged him for the last 2 seasons, but that won't be a problem next year, so it's time to not only produce the wins but to push for a championship. Unless he can be a serious rival for Espargaro in the title race, his MotoGP aspirations might start to look a bit shaky. It's time for Scott to do some proving.

MotoGP » Positive conclusion as Crutchlow looks ahead to 2013

I don't think it was quite clear what level of machinery Tech 3 will get next year, but I'm guessing they will again start out very close to factory spec, with perhaps a quicker filtering down of parts than they had this year. With at least 3 factory spec Hondas and 4 factory spec Ducatis on the grid in 2013, Yamaha will need to bring a little bit more to the table if they are not to be outgunned.
