MotoGP » Casey Stoner: Ducati’s fastest engineer

Motojunky:
Codger: The GP15 was good enough for 2nds and 3rds when Marc, Rossi and Jorge were there last season so it is no real surprise to see it at top 5 in the test. Obviously Casey did amazingly well to be the one to put it there but fairs fair, Dovi and Andrea were going through a testing program for the GP16.
Precisely, and not taking anything away from Stoner, but he did have a whole day on Saturday, with the track to himself, to get into some sort of a grove with the bike and tyres.
Everyone else had a whole day on Monday.

MotoGP » MotoGP has ‘never seen such big changes’

gsfan:
SoSlo: pretty sure switching to 4 strokes (with electronics) after decades of 2 stroke 500s was the biggest change we'll ever see.
I agree. The difference was astonishing. The 2 strokes were decimated and it showed how the platform had matured into obscurity. There was just no way to continue with them. Slow, hard to ride, and nonsensically polluting. Good riddance.
Because technical innovation was stifled. They weren't allowed to use fuel injection being a significant example.

MotoGP » MotoGP has ‘never seen such big changes’

The spec ECU and software has been coming for a long time. It would have been here sooner but Honda threatened to quit. I wish they did. In the meantime Ducati went Open class because they had to in order to fix their pile of junk. They also released their factory software to everyone. Then the rules were changed again to make a bandaid class and many posters on this forum accused Ducati of cheating. The next development will be Honda lobbying to Dorna to ban Ducati's Desmo system, in secret of course, because they can't make an engine that can compete.

@ObjectiveOne The lap times are available from the MotoGP web site. As I said, when Lorenzo has been fast enough to win a race Rossi has only been able to do beat his best lap time once for the entire year, one lap only, and that was LeMan. Yet at Phillip Island he did seven laps better than Lorenzo's fastest lap. Not seven laps better than Lorenzo. Seven laps better than Lorenzo's best lap. It is obvious from watching the race that Marquez's meaningless passes are slowing them up and Lorenzo could not make any serious break because he was too slow.

MotoGP » Six of the worst: MotoGP 2015

If you want to see what Marquez is really like then watch the video of him deliberately running Simone Corsi off the straight at Phillip Island in 2008. Now the apologists will say that he is just a kid so it is alright to risk another riders life, but that does not make it so. They will also say "the junior class is like that". Running another rider off the straight at Phillip Island is not an example of close racing. Another fine example of his sportsmanship is turning up at Rossi's Ranch for some fun except he brings his Repsol pit crew with him. As for Rossi-Gibernau, Gibernau left an opening that you could drive a bus through. At Laguna Seca, Rossi came in too hot and had to run across the dirt. The fact that Marquez plans and attempts to mimic these moves is somewhat disturbing.

@ObjectiveOne It is not a time trial. Most of Lorenzo's pathetic lap times were done with a clear track. Find any other race where such a huge disparity exists and I will accept that you are correct. Otherwise your response is meaningless. Rossi was vilified for suggesting that Marquez was messing with him and Iannone at Phillip Island. The lap times are clear proof of this but people like you say "Oh he did not win, so that cannot be true. The only rational explanation is that Rossi has lost his marbles". I prefer to examine the evidence and base my decision on that.
