F1 » Petrov position 'uncertain'

Where do you get your opinion from, Richard? From's bio of RB: "It may not have yielded the success of 2009, but 2010 again allowed the popular Brazilian to be the first to reach 300 F1 starts, at Suzuka in October, and underlined his worth as a development driver." From "Barrichello is a veteran and a fabulous car development driver" From's Forum: "Barrichello is well known as a development driver and giving good feedback, and is very very good at setting a car up, with some people even saying that it only takes Rubens about 5 laps to know the exact specific setup that he wants"

F1 » Webber: 2012 will be very different

Webber wasn't only beaten by Vettel in the same car but by Button in an inferior car. He is a great driver but, according to the statistics, not even second best on the grid even if you discount the superiority of the Red Bull. Only Massa was more convincingly beaten by a team-mate this year. No shame to Mark, who does a fantastic job, but the odds are against him.

F1 » Ecclestone: Europe 'good for tourism, but not F1'

I try to tolerate and understand people but this week Clarkson and Ecclestone have both shown themselves to be in the wrong job. Of course F1 is a European sport, born in France and Britain, totally dependant on English engineering and whose greatest circuits are almost all in Western Europe. Add the UK-friendly transmission times and you can see that Bernie is talking like a madman. Until he is replaced by someone who can tell the difference between pleasing many people and merely making a few rich, F1's real progression will have to stay on hold while this distasteful, swanky, self-regarding clique of property developers waste everyone's time.

F1 » Ferrari, Red Bull to quit FOTA

Perhaps I'm being unnecessarily cynical, but it seems to me that Red Bull and Ferrari are the teams whose pockets are the biggest and would like to spend their way to the top, whatever Ferrari may say to cover it up. I agree about testing, though I don't see the relevance. Are Ferrari and Red Bull really saying they don't have common cause with the other teams any more?

F1 » Vettel betters Mansell in Brazil

I think Vettel has definitely done better than Mansell because not only was the Williams technically separate from the rest of the field, the standard of drivers is particularly excellent these days, with the constant stream of GP2 winners and champions. There are so few spins in qualifying, for example, despite all the anti-downforce rules. Not to take anything away from Mansell who truly was the lion of F1, a fearless man who couldn't have done more, but Vettel is an extraordinarily fast and consistent driver and possibly the greatest ever in terms of those two characteristics harnessed together.
