IndyCar » Series drops standing starts in 2015

Nice to see IndyCar taking inspiration from F1. Only next time, maybe don't take the most universally-hated rule in F1 history - double points for the last race to artificially keep the championship close. Double points for the 500-mile ovals made a degree of sense, due to their length and the overall lower proportion of ovals, but this is silly. Glad the standing starts are gone as they were a failure, but this is another misguided rule change.

WSBK » Rea edges Haslam to take first Thai WSBK pole

Great to see Rea doing so well, I was confident pre-season that he could at least match Sykes despite the Kawasaki being his bike and it being his team, and so far he's comfortably on top in that team. Great that his superb efforts on the outdated Honda are being rewarded now - Guintoli and van der Mark's relative struggles on the Honda back up the view that Rea has been possibly the best WSBK rider in recent years.

F1 » Hamilton romps to Australian Grand Prix win

Cars that can't be turned on, cars that can't complete an installation lap, trained lawyers signing three drivers to watertight contracts when they only run 2 cars, wheels that don't come off or go on properly, minor or non-incidents eliminating two top drivers from the meeting, cars a 17-year-old can drive almost as well as a veteran, rules designed to hinder the new manufacturer set up at the insistence of the biggest supplier. In general, a complete fiasco, a snooze, and a waste of everyone's time and money.

F1 » Van der Garde legal decision with Sauber delayed

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the case, Giedo is not improving his situation by going to these extreme measures, especially so close to the start of the season. He could end up paying serious money to driving a car he doesn't know, for a team who don't want him, against a decent team-mate who will probably resent his presence. Does that set of ingredients make him likely to do enough to earn a 2016 drive with anyone, even before the toxic reputation he's buying himself is considered? And if he loses the case, nobody will touch him again. Ultimately, he's died by the very sword he lived by, it's not as if he got to F1 on talent alone.

F1 » Ex-F1 driver Montagny fails drugs test

Presumably there was enough left in his bloodstream to be affecting his reaction times and hazard perception - which seems unacceptable in such a high-speed high-risk sport. The fact that he didn't appeal suggests that he was fully aware of what he was doing too. I really hope he gets a chance of rehabilitation and gets to return, with the same skill and racecraft but as a much happier and more grounded person.

MotoGP » MotoGP pay TV 'something we must face'

BT Sport's coverage is excellent (unlike their football with its excessive picture-in-picture usage) but it's sad when people simply can't afford it. The point that this isn't ballet or opera is an excellent one - bike racers and team owners have always come from working-class backgrounds, and for many of those £15 a month is a heck of a lot of money, especially if you don't follow their other sports. AT least this time the BBC was outbid fair and square, unlike the devious immoral way they sold F1 fans down the river.
