IndyCar » Series drops standing starts in 2015

Nice to see IndyCar taking inspiration from F1. Only next time, maybe don't take the most universally-hated rule in F1 history - double points for the last race to artificially keep the championship close. Double points for the 500-mile ovals made a degree of sense, due to their length and the overall lower proportion of ovals, but this is silly. Glad the standing starts are gone as they were a failure, but this is another misguided rule change.

WSBK » Sykes, Baz step up feud on social media

I've gained some respect for Tom as a rider these past few years, but not as a person - smug when he wins, stroppy and angry when he doesn't, conceited and incapable of rational analysis of the bad days. Social media often brings the worst out in successful young people in all fields, but both he and Baz really need some coaching on this. I'm hoping that Rea can bring him down a step or two next year after his heroics on that geriatric Honda in recent years. Delighted that Guintoli won, he's got far more class than Sykes, Baz or Melandri.

MotoGP » MotoGP pay TV 'something we must face'

BT Sport's coverage is excellent (unlike their football with its excessive picture-in-picture usage) but it's sad when people simply can't afford it. The point that this isn't ballet or opera is an excellent one - bike racers and team owners have always come from working-class backgrounds, and for many of those £15 a month is a heck of a lot of money, especially if you don't follow their other sports. AT least this time the BBC was outbid fair and square, unlike the devious immoral way they sold F1 fans down the river.

WSBK » Baz: I am only nice to those who are nice to me

Guintoli has consistently proved himself to be the only man in the top two teams this season - Sykes, Baz and Melandri are all temperamental, immature, self-centred and disloyal. Baz has time to calm down as he's still young and found himself in a factory ride in tough circumstances, but if he does fail in MotoGP he's made himself look like a big risk for any leading Supervike team in future. Melandri has put his future at risk, and Sykes can't accept a simple racing incident like Sepang. There was nothing in his year-and-a-bit racing against the much less experienced Lascorz o suggest he was the more capable rider.

F1 » FIA: ‘Nothing could have been done better’ post-crash

This allegation that Bianchi passed a green flag before the crash is provably false, and so sad that it's spread through disreputable media with no appreciation of our sport to the point that people believe it. The green flag was clearly after the incident site, standard procedure to tell drivers that the previous yellow flag zone is over. Automatic safety car when a tractor is out under wet conditions might be a useful change now, but everything else needs more research and thought. We've had three marshalling deaths since the last F1 driver fatality, and these guys are unpaid helpers without whom we could not have racing, and yet drivers occasionally don't think about them when they see flags.

F1 » F1 drivers want answers on Bianchi crash

Modifications to the safety vehicles are worth looking into, it'd be expensive and a big research project but something most be possible. Beyond that, enforcing double-waved yellows properly would be a start. Drivers never sped through those sections when the risk of injury from a crash was more like 1/8 than 1/800, as Max Moseley noted. We've had three fatalities involving marshals since Senna died, these guys are unpaid volunteers without whom we couldn't have racing, and the drivers are risking their lives every time they fail to slow in a yellow flag zone, especially in the wet. Slightly sad that we're only looking at the implications now that it's a driver who's been hurt.
