I disagree that Maldonado should be banned, certainly. That is a huge over-reaction to a very minor incident at Spa. While I'm not denying that drivers should be punished equally, regardless of the victim of the crome, Timo could still race. Under the current rules, a 5 place grid penalty was maybe even a little harsh. Changing the rules to the 2three strikes and you're out' system would be beneficial to the sport though (an would get rid of Malsonado for a few races, surely no bad thing)

If bottas can drive the car in FP1, and he can drive it well, then why the hell not? Also, it appears that Senna is by far the better driver in the team. Not something you'd had thought even a possibility but one year ago! Says a lot about the two drivers. As for the dilmma itself: If you keep Pastor, you can afford the third car, but you don't want it, because Pastor would be driving it. How much must he have cost the team this season alone? Bottas' money would suffice given that the repair bill on his cars would be a damn sight less

Wow, crash. Daniel is moving into his second full season is he? Last time I checked, this one wasn't anywhere near over yet. Secondly, Since when did he join HRT in 2012? Aside from that, I'm afraid to say I ultimately disagree with Ricciardo's statement. The car is clearly weaker, but he was marginal on his HRT team mate, and is marginal to Vergne, who was nothing special in the feeder formula's. There are better drivers currently in GP2.

It's a tough argument, there are strong cases for both sides. I don't believe that punishing the driver as directly as this is fair, but the driver's championship is where 9/10 of the money comes from in advertising and sponsorship etc. Money=developement=faster car=wins (sort of, i know that doesn't actually work, but it's the principal). Punishing only constructors points would have very limited effect. A far fetched idea that may work: A team is allocated a certain number of gearboxes a year, and if they all break, the team is issued with a standard, pretty abysmal but practically unbreakable gearbox. The punishment is the loss in performance and can be prevented by both driver and team.
