MOTOGP » Qatar MotoGP: Rossi's race pace faster and faster


Last season Pedro had a lot of fans, not because he won 6 of the last 8 races, more because his name could be used when slagging Rossi. In the second half of last year he thrashed Jorge.......funny how after one race this year Lorenzo has already won this years Title. Or is it just to bash Rossi. If any of you could not see Rossi's performance for what it was and enjoy it, what are you watching MotoGP for? The new Qually system effectively ruined this race, I can see it seriously hurting someone in the future.

So many people saying that he had no chance of a 4th place, never mind a podium, are now saying that 2nd was only to be expected! Saying that he only just beat a rookie, conveniently forgetting that very few others (you count them) managed to beat him, let alone catch and pass him. Slagging Rossi and then saying it's to get back at his fans is disrespectful and shows a marked lack of intelligence. Sometimes amusing though.

@ 99..good points. I am English and, of course, want Cal to do well. I even predicted it when he first got the ride and everyone said he didn't deserve it. A great ride by him, I just wish he would improve his overtaking skills. The bike and him are obviously as quick as anyone, he does seem to get stuck in whatever position he finds himself in though. It'll come, Works bike or not.

A couple of thoughts......We will never know if Rossi would have beaten Jorge if they had started together. 2 things we do know, Rossi did his fast laps on worn tyres, and it sure would have been a fight. As regards Cal being on a factory bike,....He didn't struggle in Qually, so not too much wrong with the bike, Cal set his fastest lap on lap 2 or 3, Rossi's LAST lap was just a couple of hundredths down.

@ 99.....With respect there is a vast difference in your meaning when you say "SHOULD win". Can you really not see that a guy that starts 7th, gains places, makes a mistake and drops to 7th again, gains more places, gets held up by Bradle's front end problems for several laps, overtakes all the riders who were generally (on here) predicted to finish in front of him, to finally finish in 2nd place, deserves some credit? Phew, long sentence I know, but do you really think Cal had a better ride? To me the new guy Marquez was 'man of the match' , I can't give it to Jorge, he had a clear track from pole. More overtaking in this race than the last 2 years put together. Great.

It seems to me that the increasingly sophisticated electronics strangled Stoner's rear wheel steering skills that he needed to overcome the Ducati front end faults. It also occurs to me that, as it also created 'one line' racing' it has strangled Rossi's 'race craft' skills. Last year Cal would have done far better if he could have got away with the front two, or at least in front of Dovi. This race, with the track being dirty, the race might well be all over after the first two corners. Bring back 'wrist controlled' bikes and end 'one line' racing I say.
