MotoGP » MotoGP to create Factory 2 class?

When the 990s were forced to become 800cc the media implied that it was Honda driven, so they could just lop off one cylinder from their highly successful five. Safety issue was the official reason. I wish that they would do it again and have a grid full of 3cyl 750cc bikes. A bore limit would encourage the tuning for torque rather than obscene BHP figures. Ergo less electronics, less fuel needed, less costs, less concern over tyres, and just maybe closer racing. A side bonus would be that there would not be a direct comparison with WSBK. Eventually the 750cc MotoGP bikes would lap as fast as the 1000cc WSBK bikes and the old excitement that we used to have would return. Might be less sodding politics too.

MotoGP » Phillip Island MotoGP test times - Wednesday (Final)

TalentFan.....Yes, I did spot that. My point was that Ducati, like always, was probably status quo, and that open or not the lap times would be the same. It's the same bike after all, just different name. So I'm not sure that they really are more competitive. Why Honda and Yamaha are slower than expected is beyond me. I want Ducati up the front, and with Dovi on it. If Cal happens to be up there as well then that's good too. But as Dovi has said, it probably won't be this season, more's the pity.

MotoGP » Ducati software heading to Open ECU?

All this speculation that going 'open' somehow gives them an advantage doesn't tie in with what Dovi has recently said. After the tyre test he said he didn't hold out much hope of good results just yet. Maybe next year, or the end of this year. Remember, Ducati don't want to be tied to an engine freeze and that is why they changed. The other so called advantages are just side dishes to the main course. As for others already in the open class then, apart from qualifying, I see no point in the extra soft tyres, the extra fuel allowance maybe allows them to turn the wick up, but that's if they've got a wick to turn up.
