MotoGP » Phillip Island MotoGP test times - Monday (Final)

Pinched from BT Sport from an interview with Cal :- "I think two of the guys had a different plan to us, we had the construction difference and the other guys had the rubber difference. Trust me...the construction difference is a lot worse! I nearly went over the handlebars 12 times in five laps! There was no grip at all. With my riding style, I like to keep the corner as an arc a lot more, like Lorenzo, so the side grip is very important. He was testing the rubber today and I was testing the construction. Apparently that is going to swap around tomorrow, so maybe the stuff we will be trying will be better."

Motojunky.....I've had a few tasty snacks myself at times. Luckily words are not fattening. Cal is surprising me a little, he seems to be getting to grips with the Ducati, and I expect Bradders to lift his game. He's going to have to with Pol there. I thought Redding would be a little quicker than he has been too. Things will be different with tomorrows test. Cal tested the construction, set an OK time, but didn't like it much. Rossi too, but seemed to be alright with it. Jorge tested the rubber and it improved his riding compared to the lack of edge grip at Sepang. It'll be interesting compare his and Rossi's times tomorrow. Expect Rossi and Cal to be quicker and Jorge to be slower. Here are a few words I might have to eat, I don't usually make predictions :)

Is all this tyre testing with multiple variations and permutations on construction and compounds just for Phillip Island, or will it carry over to other circuits ? Yamaha suffered at Sepang, Jorge more than Rossi, and Yamaha more than Honda. If the control tyre means that bike Manufacturers have to adapt to the tyres, and riders too, how can they achieve that if the tyres keep changing ? Two tracks so far, one slippery and one grippy, so if Bridgestone are going to turn up at different tracks with different tyres who benefits ? This test is supposed to get a perspective of what each rider and each bike needs and then provide a compromise tyre to try to suit all. Not possible imo. Go back to treaded tyres, then we'll find out who can ride a bike.

Nice to see Cal settling in on the Ducati. It could be said that Rossi and JB got the bike so that anyone can get the best out of it fairly quickly and then hit a wall, whether that is for 6th place in a race or whatever. What puzzles me is what has been found to move both rider's times this year closer to the front. In 2007 they had the best engine but Stoner had to steer with the rear to overcome the inherent understeer. That understeer is still there all these years later. We have been told that to address the issue new mounting point are needed which requires Engine mods, ie new crankcases. Also, because of the Desmo valve operation, the Engine is too tall/long to move it to the sweet spot in the frame. They haven't got a new engine so what gives ?

MotoGP » Dovizioso puts Ducati in contention at Sepang

unmudura......I don't really think I'm the only fan :) I've been banging on, with tongue in cheek, for some time and until now have never had anyone 'brave' enough to back me up. Besides, when was the last time a Dovi thread attracted more than 3 posts ? (a bit like Dani's ?) The guys on this thread have summed up very well why I am a fan, and I'm hoping that this will be his year to really show what he can do.
