F1 » Verstappen gets 2015 Toro Rosso drive

I have my doubts about whether the intense scrutiny and pressure cooker environment of F1 is the place to develop a 16 year olds driving talent. We have seen it before when drivers get promoted too quickly. It should be remembered that Dan was quite a bit older and more mature (having driven for HRT for half a season under no pressure just to get acclimatised) when he got his eventual start at Toro Rosso. It is a fine line between succeeding and falling by the way side in F1. JEV was very competitive with Dan at TR, but now JEV looks like he will be lucky to get a drive next season whilst Dan looks like he has done enough to retain his drive at RBR and secure a big pay rise.

F1 » F1 2014 driver salaries published – but who earns most?

Dan is getting the equivalent of $1 million Aussie per annum, which is comparable to a top tier commercial law firm partner, so in most normal people's language he is getting paid very well, it just looks ordinary when you compare it to the extraordinary salaries that some of the others are on. In the 60's they took all the risk and got paid relatively modestly. Now days the risks are greatly reduced and they are paid telephone numbers. Seems somewhat incongrous.

F1 » Alonso and Hamilton praise ‘fantastic’ Ricciardo

Totally agree with Richard yet again. Something must be in the air. Dan had some good fortune but he took full advantage of it. Seb is finding his form and consistently through practice and qualifying outpaced Dan. Don't be surprised if we see a strong and resurgent Seb in the second half of the season. As a fellow Sandgroper I am tickled pink that our first ever F1 driver has now won his second GP, but I really think we should drink some cool aid before we get too carried away.

F1 » Lauda: Hamilton was right to defy team

Thetruthwillsetyoufree: Its not favouring one car over another its the team winning the races thats important, nico could have won but lulu had no chance so you put that car forward and get the win. For lauda to say its ok to ignore team orders is a joke, where does that leave team, anything goes i expect. Just hope lulu will need help in a future race.
If it wasn't for Lewis's good defensive driving which held Ricciardo at bay for several laps, Ricciardo would have been a further 10 seconds up the road and there is no way Rosberg could have been a threat. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
