RR » Guy Martin to attempt motorcycle land speed record

Guy has to be the man for the job. One thing I like about him is that he has been relatively unsuccessful at both circuit and road racing yet is one of the most well known (and well paid?) bike racers. Perhaps in a world of riders who have been racing since the age of 4 and haven't experienced a lot of life outside the track, gym or hospital, any rider that shows or has a bit of character will always to well.

WSBK » PATA Honda pins hopes on software upgrade

So I guess that means that there isn't much hope of an improvement. The bike is too old and dialling in new software would take time anyway. At the moment, the main thing being demonstrated by the Honda team is how damn good JR is - he actually won many times on that old dog! What interests me is if they produce enough of the MotoGP customer bike (RC213V-RS) for homologation. I'm guessing that that would do well in WSBK

MotoGP » Moto3 Germany - Free Practice (2) Results

This is great stuff from Danny, you can never guarantee any kind of position in Moto3 because of machine equality and slipstreaming etc but the guy is ALWAYS there in practise, qualifying and race. He's consistently got the speed to win but where he can't he doesn't do anything stupid and banks the front running points. There's nothing panicky or frenetic about him, there's just calm, intelligent and aggressive speed. As Danny said, if he keeps going like this the future will look after itself - really impressed! (cue the national anthem)...

MotoGP » VIDEO: Casey Stoner talks MotoGP, Suzuka

I can't believe the dislike that Casey still seems to inspire. He seemed very relaxed and open in the interview and wasn't 'winging' about anything. When he was racing he was certainly a very special talent and was the first rider to to really stick it VR - he was the first rider to refuse to be beaten by him. I don't think that CS should come back, he seems so much happier out of it. I can also see that he was just cast as the vilain of the piece against VR and one of the most shameful moments ever was when he was booed by 'fans' after a British race. He should stay away, enjoy the life he's earned and will always be remembered as one of the fastest ever who always spoke his mind and made the paddock more interesting.

WSBK » Rea: I wish we had more race weekends…

I agree that this is a man who should be in MotoGP so that we can see just how good he is. For me, possibilities would be either seat at Tech3, a factory Aprilia seat (hoping for development) or Redding's Honda seat. You can never tell because when a rider performs to JR's level in WSBK even MotoGP chiefs sit up and take notice - remember JT and BS. Another possibility would be to try Moto2 because if he destroyed the field in WSBK and then did really well in Moto2 that would also put him in the picture for the big show.

BSB » Kiyonari hopes history repeats itself to refresh year

I just can't work it out, on his day, in his day, one of the fastest in the world but some days barely turns up. With someone like Shakey you can usually tell that where he finishes is due to the quality of the bike because you can be sure he's pushing but with Kiyo you just can't tell. I think it's all in his head but it must be difficult for a team to work with.

MotoGP » Suzuki unveils retro GSX-R, Schwantz livery

Looks like a Suzuki - so that's all fine. But as regards all this applying race technology to road bike b*ll*cks, what a crock! Last time I looked we had speed limits, I've just sold my 1000cc sportsbike because all I did was check the speedo as to whether I was in line for an SP30, SP60 or ban. It was also really uncomfortable, expensive to run and had a 100 mile tank range. Sports bikes are good for track days, admiring in the garage or showing off to those who are impressed by maximum speeds. My current 500 is mercifully clear of race technology, cost me £700 but I love riding it. All the useless electronic jiggery pokery is all very amusing until it goes wrong anyway. I believe that sales of race replicas is going down pretty steeply at the moment and I guess that means that there's a bit of sanity returning to biking.

MotoGP » Flashback: Rossi, Marquez at Laguna Seca 2013

I agree, for me the context was totally different. In 08 it was part of a thrilling David v Goliath battle, whereas in 13 MM was just coming through because he had far greater pace. When VR passed CS he was right on the edge and the move seemed improvised and could have ended in disaster. MM just came through more slowly in a controlled manner and never looked flustered. It has given VR that 'credit' he talked about though.

MotoGP » Espargaro: Looks like anything goes on last corner...

I've got a sneaking suspicion that Rossi tagged MM on purpose so that he would have an excuse to go across the gravel - he may even have planned it in advance. I think that Vale is just too experienced and cunning to have something as predictable as a MM lunge not be factored into his expectations. Not complaining though, it was a great race and the old weasel wins again, It'd be great if he got his 10th WC!
