@ mentalist Its not all about power, eg. I have a 749s and an r6, the r6 has slightly more power and about 15 mph more top speed but point to point or lap times I'm quicker on my 749. There is more to it than just power! And I'm not having a go at ducati by claiming they have an advantage, I've got one and I love it, but things can't keep going the way they are for the good of the sport.

@ Sick Cylinder My point about the honda sp1 was not that they won the title but that they built the bike because the rules favoured the twins over the fours. I don't believe the hype about any sports bike needing to be relevant to both road and racing to be a commercial success, what about the gsxr750? Still a big seller but not eligible for any major race series.For me the way forward would be the same rules for everybody and if you want to compete you must have a bike that complies with the rules, this would also help keep costs lower and to say that ducati's would lose their appeal if they changed from a twin to a four is nonsense, I didn't buy my ducati because it was a twin but because of the complete package.

@ sick cylinder A big part of their success is also down to the fact that they have nearly always had a capacity advantage. There have been years that it might have been as well calling it the world ducati championships because there were so many of them. The twins may be down on power compared to similar sized fours but they make up for it in other areas, you just have to look at tyre wear at the end of a race and you'll see a huge advantage for the ducati (pointless the 4s having more power if they can't use it)

@ papa I could be wrong but did the sp1 not win the title in its 1st year and was only dropped in favour of the fireblade when 4 cylinder capacity was raised to 1000cc. The ducati 999 was still a competitive bike against the 4s but they complained that it was too expensive to make it competitive, again that's their problem, if they're not happy they should build a bike to suit the rules not chuck the toys out the pram until the rules favour them.

@ Gazza The empty seats at the race were not due to financial or political reasons,but simply because it really is not that big a deal over there.I was at the Qatar race in 2009 and was shocked how quiet it was, main stand not even half full. I was fortunate to be staying in the same hotel as some of the riders and teams and was told 1st hand that they like the venue because it is so relaxed due to the low number of fans. On the pit walk riders were actually engaging with fans instead of hiding at the back of the garage ( Colin Edwards is a legend).
