F1 » Rossi secures Caterham test role

I've seen Rossi's name mentioned in the odd article here and there throughout the last year, and I remember Richard mentioned him in the comments section on the "Why are there no American drivers in F1" a while back. I knew there was an association between Alexander Rossi and Caterham, so I wasn't confused by the title and I'm looking forward to seeing A. Rossi turn some laps on Fridays throughout the year. As an American, I'm excited to see an American driver associated with an F1 team again. The team now known as Caterham has been my favorite of the three new teams, and this only serves to reinforce that feeling. Hopefully Rossi does well and gets a race seat in a year or two.

F1 » Sutil appeals court decision

Again, not familiar at all with the legal system in Germany, so please excuse any ignorance. I'm wondering if Sutil appealing the initial ruling carries the potential risk that a harsher punishment may be handed out (actual jail time rather than a suspended sentence). The article mentions that Hamilton would be requested in the event of a retrial. I would think retrial means possibility of new sentence?

F1 » Sutil found guilty in GBH trial

I found an article on speedtv.com which actually goes into detail about the incident. Apparently the people at speed were able to view the CCTV security footage and according to them Lux was standing over a seated Sutil and having a discussion. Apparently Lux attempted to grab Sutil by the left arm to pull him out of the chair, at which point Sutil pushed him away with his right hand (the hand in which the glass was in) and the injury occurred. If this is indeed the correct sequence of events I'd say it seems more of an unfortunate accident in which Lux was at least partly to blame. Lux first laid a hand on Sutil. It certainly doesn't sound like Sutil deliberately attempted to harm him. Not saying he deserved what happened, but perhaps Lux's ego got in the way of an apology/mutual agreement. Seems like Sutil was made an example of (and the prosecutor's statement that athletes are supposed to be role models hints at this a bit). Jeff

F1 » Sutil found guilty in GBH trial

So, if the trial is now concluded does the record or any of the evidence become a matter of public record? I have not yet seen a story that has been clear on the exact circumstances of the altercation, just the resulting 24 stitches required. I believe I remember reading that there may have been security footage from the night club's cameras? I am not familiar with the legal system in Munich so please forgive my ignorance. Jeff

F1 » McLaren chief leaps to Hamilton defence

Mozartist, I appreciate the defense and the clarification. In turn I offer you the same advice that you gave to me: Don't let some of the others on here influence your likelihood to comment. It is a nice (if sometimes rare)occasion to be able to have a discussion/debate with someone of a different opinion without it degrading to personal attacks. Jeff

F1 » McLaren chief leaps to Hamilton defence

Angelina, Your statistics on the fastest laps were off. According to the Formula1 website, the fastest lap statistics are as follows. Massa - 2 races with fastest lap Webber - 7 races with fastest lap Hamilton - 3 races with fastest lap Button - 3 races with fastest lap Vettel - 3 races with fastest lap Alonso - 1 race with fastest lap 3 fastest laps for Ferrari 6 for McLaren 10 for Red Bull Like I said, I don't think fastest race lap is really a good stat to base the pace of the car on largely due to the degradation of the Pirelli tires. In my opinion these statistics support my argument. Jeff

F1 » McLaren chief leaps to Hamilton defence

Mozartist, Fair enough... As it sits I'd be surprised if Hamilton wasn't in one of the McLaren cars next year. If I were him, I wouldn't think it makes sense to go elsewhere. We'll see where his mindset is at throughout this season though. Time will tell I suppose. From a hypothetical standpoint I'm not sure where else he'd go. Every driver wants to go where they will have the best chance of winning. The relationship between him and Alonso seems to outwardly have improved a bit as the years have gone on, but somehow I don't see that being an ideal move. Red Bull has Vettel and I believe they've (Horner or Marko, not sure which) made statements that such a pairing is unlikely. Mercedes needs to close the gap to the front 3 a bit, so McLaren is still the seat that makes the most sense.
