I think the bike needs more color. As for Rossi himself, I think he is going to surprise us. The Ducati although not his style bike and he never came to grips with the thing, required a certain style to ride. AKA flat track style. He had to do some learning to keep from having the thing spit him off. And if he can add that style to his weapons.........

Stoner didn't seem to be a good fit for MotoGP. Much of it is about politics, autographs, rules, sometimes close racing etc. Stoner IMHO would be spectacular in TTs such as the Isle of Mann. Very little of the gladhanding, mostly a clear track, etc. Right up his alley.

Fastest times??? Who cares?? The telling tale is the section by section. Fastest times are really calculated by taking the accumulated section data(best of) and adding them together. As for this topic, it is a tossup between Lorenzo and Pedrosa, both excell at putting down a fast lap. AND they are used to their bikes.

Ignore the math to avoid the subject if you wish. 5 seconds is an eternity. I am not hammering Honda (unless you think the comment that Honda's engineering is second to none is hammering), they have the know-how to do it. But the reality is their bike is superior. Best engine, best fuel consumption, best gearbox, second best frame (maybe as good now). Honda knows how to go racing. More power to them. (Pardon the pun)

Hundredths per shift. Add a few shifts per corner and you have tenths. Even in the worst case of .2 seconds per lap. At the end of the race that is 5 seconds.

@CRT, Both Yamaha and Ducati have a version of the gearbox. But they are not near as sophisticated as Honda's. Honda's engineering is second to none. Not to mention their desire to dominate racing. From Motomatters: Bike Average shift time (ms) Ducati 42 Yamaha 27 Honda 8

Doesn't matter if it is Rockstar or Monster. At least Lorenzo isn't wearing that that wanna-be gangsta hat, making him look like his IQ was 20 points lower than it is. Now if someone could get Hayden the message...

Marquez will have a massive machinery advantage this year as well!! How exactly? What "massive" advantage does the Honda have? It comes in 2 forms. 1. Engineering might/dollars to make the most out of the fuel limits. 2. That super trick gearbox that gives you 1/10s accelerating out of a corner.

Except that you conveniently left out that the other mfgs had improved. And Rossi's race times were as good if not better than the previous rider.

Hopefully they are working on an narrower V engine, with a new frame that moves the engine forward and allows for a longer swing arm. They know and have known what is wrong, now they just need to implement. Remember they were hampered by the number of engines and a certain engineer, now they can start fresh. Problem is they lost sponsors when Rossi left (notice there isn't any Generali any more), hopefully Audi has deep pockets.
