F1 » Vettel: Port Imperial 'a big challenge in F1 car'

Posters - The race is being held within the greater New York metropolitan area. This is made up of parts of three States: New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. It contains the same amount of population as that of the entire continent of Australia, but in nearly 250 times less land area. Who really cares what it is called, the important point is that there is an event. Sheesh, how many years did the Jets and Giants play in Jersey but were still considered New York teams?

F1 » Vettel: Port Imperial 'a big challenge in F1 car'

@Angelina and those that disagreed with my earlier comment. It was not meant to be an insult to residents of either state. I live near the former Gateway International Raceway and quite frequently it was referenced as being in St Louis, but yet it was in Illinois. Did I get upset as an Illinois resident, no because who really cares? It was always about the racing for me and it should be the same for you folks. I highly doubt that there were some kind of late night plots from Missouri officials to steal the glory from Illinois, just as I do not see it in this case either. I hope the residents from the entire metro area can come together and make the race a great success.

F1 » Red Bull wheel hubs under scrutiny

According to the commentators on Speed, the holes were plugged on the hubs prior to taking to the track this weekend, so it is non-story. Also the Red Bull just won qualifying by one of the largest margins of the season, without the hubs or the holes at the rear. One would think the other teams would quit nitpicking the RBR, because their complaints appear to be advancing it.

Le Mans » Montagny called up by OAK

@Nanbawan Franck Montagny repeatedly brake checked and chopped off the nose of Allan McNish from the very start of last years event and repeatedly did it for seven laps. Once past, McNish dropped him easily. Common sense should dictate that the race is not decided with 23 hours remaining, let the faster car by. His teammate, Mark Gene, was the idiot, late in the race, ignoring the blue flags, refusing to let the leader past, even forcing the leader from the road, despite being four laps down and 16 seconds a lap slower than the front running Audi. The entire Peugeot team conducted themselves like a bunch of classless and second rate amateurs during the entire event.

F1 » Wolff: Female F1 racer 'within a decade'

@Droog I cannot speak in terms of actual numbers about the female pilots. I found an article that stated that 4.9% of the current US combat pilots are female. I also found individual articles that reference women are currently piloting B-2's, A-10's, F-15's, and F-22's (until they got grounded) in combat currently. So they are not just flying cargo missions, many are regularly pulling up to 12g's in some hardcore jets. Female pilots from the UK and US have graduated from Top Gun school as well. The carrier ratings are not disclosed, but I imagine it would fall in line with that 4.9% figure. That isn't a bad thing, because the vast majority of male pilots are not carrier rated either. I bet a fair number of these women have had to overcome some great challenges to get to where they are, now they are equals, F1 will be no different. A remarkable person is not defined by gender, only their abilities.

F1 » Wolff: Female F1 racer 'within a decade'

@Droog I am not that PC, but I am a reasonable person, and I simply don't buy into gender as a factor of limitation, when it is applied to motorsports. As my post about combat pilots displays, women are capable of enduring forces many times those in F1. If you read bjr's post again, he states clearly that, "there are more than just physical differences between men and women". That statement is a direct assertion that intellectually, mentally, or genetically they are lacking. Yes I agree that, in some cases, there are jobs more suited for men, but racing is not one of them. In fact, racing is the one sport where even those with disabilities can perform quite well and on even terms with their peers. I also disagree that the attitude of a woman racer is different, they are exactly the same as that of a man, aggressive and consumed by a desire to win.

@Guirarman U.S. service women have been flying jets, in combat, for 20 years and dispel your theory that women are not up to withstanding the forces of a F1 car. Fighter pilots are routinely subjected to forces exceeding those in F1, by double or more, and also need much faster reflexes than are required in F1, as they are traveling at speeds many times that of a F1 car. I would say that those factors alone dispel your theory of women being physically not up to the task of F1.
