F1 » Vettel wins Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

@ Jim Clausen, the bandwagon seems such a great place to be at any time. Seb once had a reputation for crashing into people as Mark would confirm so he's just like all the other champions, flawed in some small way. I do remember a certain Michael S and Ferrari being the perfect combination with the additional advantage of being a dream in the wet. Junior drivers in the olden days did not have a car, they merely rode in the backup car hoping the No 1 driver didn't need it. The times are different the drivers are different and if an edge is to be given it would be to the older drivers who had to brake, steer, everything on their own. Who warned Moss of an impending engine failure or flat tyre. Who kept weather information for Collins or Clark. Could you coax any of the present drivers to drive those old cars on the Nurburgring in the rain even if their insurance minders would allow it. The present time is exciting in many aspects but can be described as more about technology ......

F1 » Star of India Vettel crowned as champion

Why try to compare Vettel with Clark or any of the drivers from that or earlier eras. Clark and others like him paid for mistakes with their lives. Modern drivers often don't. Would Kubica, Shoemacher Hakinnen have survived their crashes in the 50's or 60's. Medical competence as well as track facilities, personnel are much more efficient and accomplished. How long would a Maldonado, Grosjean, Hamilton, Vettel have survived on the real Spa, Ring etc. Modern drivers are brilliant in their own way but not superior to the older guys in their times. Could Vettel have survived having to turn his car over to his more experienced team mate. Congrats to Red Bull, Vettel , Newey and Horner for a job well done as each had a hand in the result, and none was found wanting.

F1 » Walker: Vettel is one of the greats

It is highly disappointing when alleged students of the sport contribute so little to the spreading of useful information about F1 but would rather, like a pack of jackals, seek to denigrate one or two individual drivers. The current crop of drivers is very closely compared and is in my opinion, one of the best overall talentwise, for quite some time. That one or the other wins the championship does not diminish the abilities of the drivers, as a championship also involves the rest of the winning team. JMF won in an era when team drivers gave up their actual cars to enable their team to have a win. Is he thus diminished by this fact. Moss never won a title, is he too diminished. Hans Joachim Stuck first established his reinmeister credentials in F1 but quickly abandoned the series for sports and rally cars. Is there anyone who can question his right to be called one of the greatest drivers of all time. This forum should be a place where the younger, less informed member can get useful
