A very well written piece, thank you to whomever is the author.
From all prerace driver comments, one just knew something was going to happen, and nothing about it would be good...
I tuned in to the broadcast about 30 minutes in, to see my screen filled w/ cars, parts of cars, car parts, smoke, fire extiguisher discharge staining the track, and one car, covered in canvas.
...and that sinking feeling entered my body and mind...
I feel powerless to add much here..it is such a great loss to our racing community, across all forms, 2 and 4 wheeled...
IndyCar put all the parts in place for this to happen...a low point in the leadership of this series. A cold heart somewhere has looked at the rateings for the International audience...
For those of you in England, you should know that Dan really was embraced here in America...respected, and loved. As a 2 time Indianapolis 500 winner, he truly will never be forgotten...he has passed into our history.
The telecast closed w/ an

...As if wanting this enuff could make it so... But if there's a chance in hell this happens, fantastic! After discovering BSB last year, and John Hopkins stellar run at the title, lets see what Noriyuki Haga can do w/ the Empire's best. Gonna be a thrill to follow this series in 2012 from race one.

Nicky Haden will return to MotoGP...no if, ands or buts!...he'll get first class attention to his physical issues state side, put his head down and rehab himself, and return. This is what he does, this is what he knows...he's unlikely to race AMA like someone said...nor WSB. He'll race and retire out of the Premier Class...and being a consumate pro, he'll do so when HE knows it's time to do so... That doesn't mean he won't continue to ride the dirt...Paris-Dakar, Baja, and a guest appearance at a Flat Track or two....

This would be a great time for Rubens to dip a toe in...BUT, if he waits too long he'll lose critical track time for an event like, say, the Indy 500. And that event would be a fabulous oppurtunity to experience a legendary IndyCar race at THE venue of this series. With all the air gone from Danica he would easily fill that void and get big time world press, be around his brothers in arms, and I'd bet become a big time name in the sport in short order...He's got the cred, still has speed and daring, and is in a career situation that Americans love to get behind...the ageing star, his seat in F1 given to a young rising star, Ayrton's nephew of all people, looking to show the world you overlook him at your peril....perrrfect. Hope he gets a thumbs up from his family and doesn't let this golden oppurtunity expire. I'd love to see him race for a race nut like Tony Stewart who know what the entire American scene is about...just dreamin' out loud.

these are infinitely programable devices...and can be set up to alter traction effect in any gear different from the next...it's another facet of set up that closely ties rider feed back to the chap at the keyboard who is as vital to outcome as the guy in charge of tires, or brakes, etcetera.... ...and racing on English tracks always brings the threat of rain, come and gone or having to race thru it. ...so called rider aids can work for you, or if not set up according to conditions and track layout, as easily work against you... nick morgan is right about controlling 200hp...whomever thinks this device makes racing akin to just twisting the right side grip clearly doesn't get it...best go follow the local soccer team, it's easier to understand...

agree w/ RJM that the series really needs to be run here at home...not exclusively, but mostly...I wonder what interest they might have in England if in fact they have any road circuits that might work? I saw them race here in Baltimore this year and it was a pretty terrible circuit...no flow...and they raced in a canyon of stands where you got a fleeting glimpse of the machinery...plus, it wasn't so safe. Ask Tony Kanan who touched wheels at the end of the main straight and got launched during practice into a runoff just missing a concrete barrier by an inch...the barrier was out of place and wasn't even pushed aside for the main race. Cart, IRL, IndyCar...whatever they become, were, are...needs to do something as the Indy 500 is about the only place that creates any buzzz...beyond that race, it's more zzzzz, as in snore.

@joey wallaby. kicked out of what tracks? ..and why?...and Indy isn't one of them, i'd assume May brings tons of money to the whole region... are their crowds to small? too rowdy? this is news to me that they have been kicked out of anyplace...maybe priced out due to Nascar popularity, emmense schedule, so heightened fees and rents...priced out isn't kicked out

...about right, one tic better than Rossi, this season! and a better performance than a handful of riders...kinda mid pack, which is where he ends up race after race after race. ...the accompanying NH photo says alot about what he's had to contend w/ to arrive mid pack by race's end...a handful! ...for the sake of entertainment I hope he and Rossi have machines that allow them to remain up front for a whole race...we'll see, but I'm doubting there will be some big leap forward...maybe the extra ponies will level the field?!

...wow les rose, what are you doing hanging around the IndyCar posts? ...you've managed to expose yourself as a tool, plain and simple. It's hardly worth the few minutes needed to type out some long standing IndyCar facts... for your only interest is to agitate. You are an empty assortment of smelly clothes...with a few flys landing around your mouth to drink up the drooling hops staining your unshaven chin...get lost and close the door on your way out...loser!

...this is the next step up for Hopkins. And he earned it w/ his result in BSB...taking nothing from others who might have also earned a look. ...the truth is money is in short supply...we all know it...and WSB is a Series yes, but it is first off, a business. ....Hopkins onboard w/ Suzuki should be a near seamless progression, but I'm sure there will be plenty of pressure for results, it'll be no happy joyride when the green flag drops... ...and I suspect all returning WSB riders will do everything in their power to finish ahead of JH in particular... ...so this will be an easier package to buy and watch than BSBs, impossible stateside! I can't wait to dial this series in next spring. ...and I will read about BSBs here on Crash.Net...my new favorite Series. Maybe bigger world names in MotoGP, but the racing was far less exciting than BSB, many times less exciting...only the hype of MotoGP seems to live up to the hype...their series seemed decided early on w/ no real challenges to
