I may well be proven wrong, but though I accept he's had some very good bikes in the past I think that the competition was tougher then. If I'm being honest, I rate Lavilla and the pre-WSBK iteration of Kiyo higher than Byrne, and when Byrne beat him in 2008 he had a superior machine. Haslam at his peak was a superior rider to Byrne, he contended for the world championship in 2010, even if he always looked second favourite. If he's still close to that rider, he has too much for anyone in this field. Ellison has never been close to Haslam at his best.
